Tragedy struck on Saturday, 1 November, 2014, when about five
members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, reportedly died in a boat
mishap that happened in Ekeremor Local Government area of Bayelsa.
Sahara Reporters informs that the victims of the tragic incident were
on their way back from Yenagoa where they went for the conduct of PDP’s
Ward Congresses in Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that a former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief
Peremobowei Ebebi, and six others were reportedly rescued by local
divers and passengers of oncoming boats which stopped to assist the
victims.

Eyewitnesses told journalists that the tragic incident happened at about 5pm along the Ekeremor waterways.
While three corpses, out of the five people alleged to have died from
the boat mishap, have been recovered, the search for the remaining
bodies is said to be ongoing.

When contacted, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP
Lawrence Eboka, said he has not been briefed about the incident as he
was at the home of the President, Goodluck Jonathan on special duty.
