Please Save Us From Dangote, Cement Producers Beg Buhari

Change must affected all areas of Nigeria, no more impunity. Cement manufacturers under the aegis of Cement Producers Association of Nigeria, CPAN, have called on President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari to assist them in fighting corruption in the sector allegedly perpetrated by a cabal “that has been dictating cement policies for personal interests.”

In a tacit reference to popular businessman and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, they specifically pleaded with Buhari to assist in reducing the price of cement from N2,200 to N1,000 per bag.

This appeal when considered, CPAN said, will be the first dividend of change for all Nigerians.

The Chairman of CPAN, Prince David Iweta, in a letter to Buhari dated March 3congratulating him on his victory in the recently-concluded general elections and obtained by journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, said cement should be allowed to be imported into Lagos, Warri and Calabar.
He said, “This cabal makes abnormal annual profit in the region of N200 billion from cement alone for the past six years while same company partnered with the Federal Government to suspend cement import permit granted by late President Musa Yar’Adua to six companies one each from each of the geo-political zones owing to late President Yar’Adua’s fairness, equity and justice style of governance to guarantee that cement sell at N1.000 per bag to Nigerians.

“We wish to use this medium to appeal to you and your government at inauguration to declare a change of price of cement from N2,200 per bag to N1,000 per bag. This will serve as the first dividend of change which the people of Nigeria voted for. The cement industry after the death of late President Musa Yar’Adua has witnessed the worst height of corruption and injustice for the past six years.

“It may interest the General to know that Nigeria is the country with the highest price of cement in the world. Why? It is worthy of mention that countries that have attained self sufficiency in cement production all over the world sell cement at N500 per bag. But in Nigeria where the Federal Government has claimed success in the cement industry, net exporter of cement is selling the commodity at N2,200 per bag.

“But not a bag is exported since 2012 as claimed. Why? It is a known fact that all West Africa countries, East, North and South Africa sell cement under N1,000 per bag; but in Nigeria, it is selling for N2,200. Why? new foreign direct investors are barred from venturing into the Nigeria cement industry since the past six years. So that cement price will remain high. Why?”

Confusion at Abia State After INEC Rejects Gov. T.A. Orji's Senate Bid

Gov Theodore Orji was roundly beaten at the poll including in his polling unit, ward and local government by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Ahamdi Emmanuel Nweke, but that PDP in connivance some Independent National Electoral (INEC) officials allegedly manipulated the result in favour of the governor, Daily Sun reports.

It was also gathered that following complaints lodged at the INEC headquarters, Abuja, a three-man committee was set up to look into the allegation of result manipulation.

“Although the committee’s report has not been made public, but a source revealed the APGA candidate won the election and members are taking their findings back to the INEC headquarters.

When news of the development filtered into town, the capital city went agog with residents saying that at last, the man they voted for, would represent them in the Senate.

A prominent Umuahia chief, who hails from the same area with Gov Orji, was said to have held an elaborate party to celebrate the development.

Addressing newsmen, Chief Nweke said there was no time he had doubt about his ability to defeat Gov Orji at the poll, stating that his non-performance in office made victory easier for him.

Nweke said it was not only that he defeated Orji, but that he beat him at his (governor’s) polling unit, which, according to him, meant his kinsmen rejected him and that he also defeated the governor at the wife’s polling unit.

He said: “If I could beat the governor at his polling unit and that of his wife, all in Umuahia, which means total rejection by his kinsmen, where else could he get the votes that will make him to defeat me? Could it be from my own ward and local government? It’s impossible.

“How could people have voted for APGA and they are writing a different result? That’s why I like what INEC at the headquarters is doing; it will restore people’s confidence in the system.

“T.A Orji should emulate President Goodluck Jonathan and concede defeat so that peace will reign in the area. If President Jonathan with all the powers at his beck could concede defeat, why shouldn’t T.A Orji?” While thanking the outgoing President for his statesmanship by not allowing the blood of innocent Nigerians to be shed in the pursuit of self-satisfaction and urge for power, he called on President Jonathan to call to order one of his ministers, who he said had been using the military and other agencies of government to rig elections in the state and also intimidating opposition party members.

He also called on the chairman of INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega and other stakeholders to ensure credible polls on Saturday, alleging that they have obtained reports on the plot by the PDP to hire thugs from Abala Ibeme in Obingwa LGA and Rivers State to unleash mayhem on Abians in the nine local government areas of Ngwaland, set the famous Ariaria International Market ablaze as well as cause confusion among voters on the day of the election.

Fear of APC: Mimiko Has Recalled The Workers He Sacked

Ahead of the governorship election, Governor Segun Mimiko of Ondo state has re-instated about 1,000 LGA workers laid off last year following discovery that their employment was "illegal".

The government also announced that it has waived the outcome of the last promotional examination in the state to ensure that workers in its employment eligible for promotion are promoted.

What this means is that, workers not qualified will now be promoted all because of election.

In a statement issued by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kayode Akinmade in Akure, about 50 workers each, from the 18 local governments in the state laid off following discovery that they were illegally employed, have been re-instated and the irregularities in their employment process corrected.
Government also said it has decided to promote every worker due for promotion irrespective of performance in the promotional examination conducted for them for the same purpose.

According to Hon. Akinmade, “The state Government has re-absorbed and properly employed about 1,000 local government workers identified to have been illegally employed during the last screening exercise in the state.

"The Governor has also ordered the promotion of workers due for promotion to the next level of their career without recourse to the result of the promotional examination earlier conducted for the same purpose.”

Buhari Assures Nigerians: I Will Make You Proud for Voting Me

The President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has assured Nigerians that he would as a matter of fact justify the confidence reposed in him by providing the much-needed good leadership for Nigeria.

Addressing a huge crowd in Katsina, Buhari pledged not to betray the trust of Nigerians, assuring that the people will find in him a trustworthy leader. He reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the trio of corruption, insecurity and wobbling economy, noting he is committed to running a just government.
“During our campaign tour, we talked about three key issues of security, economy and corruption. We will accord them necessary attention.”

The president-elect, who said he was in his home state of Katsina on a thank you visit to voters who voted for him overwhelmingly, urged them to support APC candidates in tomorrow’s election, saying he does not want to be disgraced at home.
He enjoined APC supporters to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2011 where his party won majority NASS seats in the state but failed to capture the guber seat.

General Buhari also lauded key members of PDP in the state who defected to APC “for coming to join us in moving the nation forward."

Earlier, the president-elect received key PDP members including 12 serving members of the state assembly, former deputy governor and two gubernatorial aspirants.

Push APC into the Atlantic Ocean-Jimi Agbaje tells Igbos

PDP governorship Aspirant for Lagos state,Jimi Agbaje has urged Igbos to push APC into the Atlantic Ocean. He said while addressing Igbo traders at the Alaba international market on Thursday
“Nobody can push you into the Atlantic Ocean. Rather, you should use your votes to push the APC into the Atlantic Ocean by voting massively for the PDP on Saturday., “Election is like a snake. You have to make sure you win by killing the snake completely by using your votes to drive the APC out of power. The reason why they are harassing you is because they fear Igbo votes. They will try to do ‘shakara’ for you but you must vote massively for the PDP and protect your votes.
”He said, “In the last 16 years, the APC has been full of arrogance. This arrogance must end once and for all. Saturday is the time to say enough is enough. “God is on our side and power will change hands on Saturday and life will be better for you and your businesses. There will be no oppression again because this election is about freedom from bondage.”

Musicians should not live useless lives which doesn't glorify God-Duncan Mighty

Duncan Mighty has opened up on what he doesn't like about music and the costliest mistake a musician can make..He told Yes International..
There’s nothing I don’t like about music. But an artiste, when you have opportunities to sing, don’t use it to abuse other people. It’s very bad. I don’t like it because music is a gift given to us by God. So, we should use it to glorify God, not to abuse God or people.
One of the costliest mistakes a musician or a star can make is for a music star to be living a useless life. I mean, living a life that will not glorify God. After all God has done for you through music, you forget how you started and you allow the fame to take over you. You can influence people in a better way. You can change people. But the right people can not come to you because of your attitude. So, I think this is a big mistake.

Patience Jonathan is Pushing INEC to Rig in Rivers – Amaechi

Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that out-going first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has been putting pressure on INEC’s resident electoral commissioner in the state, Mrs Gesila Khan, to rig the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in favour of the PDP.

Amaechi, who made the allegation while speaking at a town hall meeting at the Dr Obi Wali Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, said the first lady, who arrived Rivers State on Wednesday, has been holding series of meetings with senior officers of the security agencies including the REC, Mrs. Khan.

The governor said, “The wife of the president has been holding series of meetings in her house aimed at influencing the outcome of the election. We will resist it. We will not allow what happened during the presidential election to happen again. Mrs Jonathan cannot choose a governor for us. Rivers people have the right to choose who should be their governor.”

He wondered why the president’s wife is so interested in the governorship election, adding that she asked for the deployment of security men to Rivers State during the last election.

Amaechi said, “Let the wife of the president remain in her house. She should not foist a candidate on us. We the people of Rivers State will decide who our next governor will be. The president’s wife brought militants back to Rivers State so that they can be used to rig election. We will chase away the militants after the election.”

He maintained that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not vote if they do not see the result sheets and this will apply to all the units and wards in the 23 local governments, and urged members and supporters of the APC to be very vigilant.

The governor said, “We will not vote if we don’t see the result sheets. Ask the INEC officials for the result sheets. If they fail to produce them, then form a human ring round the INEC officials and together with the security men escort the ad-hoc staff to the local government headquarters and lodge your complaints. But make sure nobody votes in any unit that cannot produce the original result sheets. We will not accept photocopies.”

“We will do what we do in our village: we call it the Obima formula. Our youths usually lock down the village. No one comes in and no one goes out. I am pleading that INEC should not endanger the lives of its staff by holding on to the original result sheets”.
