A Tennessee state trooper arrested internationally hip-hop artist "Nelly" on felony drug charges in Putnam County on Saturday morning.

The investigating trooper planned to conduct an inspection on the bus when he noticed an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

Sorry, I Can’t Marry A Poor Man —Actress Belinda Effah

Nollywood actress, Belinda Effah, has made a stride in the movie industry after her emergence in 2011. She won the Most Promising Actor of the Year Award at the African Movie Academy Awards. She told a journalist some interesting things about herself recently. Read excerpt of the chat below:

Have you seen the qualities you desire in any potential suitor?
I am looking for a God-fearing man.

Would you marry a poor but God-fearing man?
A God-fearing man knows what he has to do to take care of his home. When you are God-fearing every other thing is taken care of. You do not need to worry about finances. I cannot marry a poor man. I know that God-fearing men are rich in their mentality. And that is money enough. God-fearing men understand what it means to set a goal, to have focus on their dreams. They have drive; they are responsible; they have ambition. Maybe at the moment you might not be so rich, but the future is well laid out for a God-fearing man. It is not about today. Money may come today and leave tomorrow. I do not mind struggling with my man up to the top. I am hard-working.

Are you in a relationship?
I am single.

Any lucky man?
You will get to know in due time.

How best do you love to dress?
I love to dress in whatever makes my skin comfortable. I do not care what it is, but so long as it makes me comfortable I wear it. I would like to wear something that makes me comfortable in the midst of people. I love to create my style. I do not believe in going with the trend. For me, I go with my mood.

APC Finally Consolidates Its Position As The Ruling Party

The wind of change blowing across the country again resonated on Saturday in many states that the ruling PDP has governed since the return of civil rule in 1999.

Results monitored by LEADERSHIP indicated that Benue, Niger, Jigawa and Katsina States have fallen to the winning streak of APC, whose presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, won the March 28 presidential election against the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP.

In the governorship and house of assembly elections, a similar pattern of the “historic change” was seen in most of the states hitherto considered PDP strongholds...

Although final figures are still being compiled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), our correspondents reported that the APC was “progressively leading” in most of the polling units monitored.
In Niger State, the APC candidate, Abubakar Bello, was jubilant and excited members of the party were seen celebrating across the state’s 25 local government areas.

In Benue, the successes of Senators Barnabas Gemade and George Akume in the National Assembly election also rubbed off on the APC candidate for the state, Samuel Ortom.

Ortom resigned from the cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the state’s number one job. He was maintaining a comfortable lead in 18 of the 23 local governments at press time.

At the Government House polling unit, Ortom scored 145 votes to beat his PDP opponent, Terhemen Tarzoor, who polled 119 votes.

Also at Annunne Market Square Polling Unit in Tarka local government area, the APC polled 324 votes to PDP’s 14 votes.

However, Tarzoor is said to have polled a total of 152 votes at the Ankpa Ward Polling Unit, an area where he grew up, to Ortom’s 150 votes.

Contrary to expectations that PDP’s Jimi Agbaje backed by the non-natives of Lagos State will replace Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, the APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode is conveniently coasting home to victory.

Results from the polling units indicated that Agbaje scored higher in Igbo-dominated communities like Amuwo Odofin and Oshodi/Isolo, but he lost by win margins in most polling units of Lagos East Senatorial District and Alimosho which have the largest populations in the state. Ambode was said to be in firm control of at least 15 of the 20 local government areas of the state.

Plateau also surprisingly favoured APC from the unit-by-unit analysis.

In Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha also cast off the state-sponsored rigging of the presidential election against his party, the APC, in the state to launch into an early lead, ahead of closest rivals, Emeka Ihedioha (PDP) and Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho (APGA).

Also, Kaduna State, which had been ruled by PDP for 16 years, had Malam Nasir el-Rufai of the APC ahead of the incumbent governor, Mukhtar Yero, who hinted that things might not work his way.

Shortly after accreditation in Zaria, yesterday, Yero told his supporters and the entire people of state to accept the outcome of the election, whichever way it went.

Similarly, in Katsina, former speaker, House of Representatives and candidate of the APC, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari appeared to cut short the winning streak of the PDP in the state since 1999.

President-elect Buhari was in Katsina on Thursday to attend the final rally for APC’s governorship and state House of Assembly candidates in Saturday’s elections, and he pleaded with the people of his home state to vote for his party’s candidates.

Jigawa has also returned to the APC fold with results indicating that a majority of the House of Assembly seats as well as that of the governor went to APC. The state was governed by the All Nigeria People Party (ANPP) before the PDP took it over in 2007.

A similar situation is also playing out in Kebbi State as the APC governorship candidate, Senator Atiku Bagudu, is coasting home to victory and leading the PDP candidate Gen Sarkin Yaki Bello, in most of the local government areas of the state.

Why My Wife Didn’t Accompany Me To Vote – Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan went to polling unit 039, Ward 13 in Ogbia Constituency 3 yesterday without his wife, Dame Patience.

The development was the first time the couple would be the first time the couple would not be voting together since the return of democracy in 1999.

Jonathan had arrived at 1:50pm unaccompanied by Dame Patience. Jonathan explained her absence: “We used different aircraft. She was supposed to be here. And we’ve been expecting her and we hope she will still come. The only problem is whether she will meet up with the accreditation period. But, she is supposed to be on her way.”

JUST IN: FAAN Executive Director Implicated In Botched Kidnap Attempt

Politics is meant to be a fair game but some people, out of greed, has turned it into a dirty battle.
In a desperate bid to ensure her brother clinches the House of Assembly ticket for Okura constituency in Kogi State, Salamatu Umar-Eluma, the Executive Director, Human Resources of the Federal Airports Authority Nigeria (FAAN) has been identified as the master mind behind the kidnap and attempted assassination of certain people in Anyigba, Kogi State.

Her brother Hassan was also a staff of FAAN until he resigned to contest this election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Eye witness accounts indicate that about 10am on Saturday April 11, strange looking thugs of intimidating size stormed Anyingba town in the company of Salamatu' s sister, Ramatu Abdullahi, destroying properties and forcing residents to flee...

In the mayhem, Four PDP stalwarts were kidnapped. Luck however ran out on the hoodlums as they were intercepted at Ajaka, about 100 kms away from Anyingba.

Fortunately, three men have been arrested in connection with a failed assassination attempt on the former Accountant General of Kogi state, Rev. Paul Audu. These hoodlums are making useful statements to the police.

Fayose already celebrating victory, says PDP won all House of Assembly seats in Ekiti

With an a impeachment move against him in the works,Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State is already celebrating victory at the House of Assembly Polls. According to him,its 26-0 with PDP winning every single seat in the state. Parading the streets of Ado-ekiti yesterday, Fayose said
We defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all the 16 local governments in the governorship election last June. We repeated the same feat by winning in all the councils during the recent presidential and National Assembly elections. He continued.

“Today, the people of the state have spoken again and voted massively for our party. From the results we have from our agents, we are winning again. Those who are hitting their heads against the wall must know that it is God who enthrones and who has put us in the saddle this period in time”.
If true,it means the outgoing APC legislators may not be able to pull through with their impeachment move.

AIG Mbu Again? Says his threat to shoot Lagosians paid off

Controversial police officer, Joseph Mbu has boasted that his threat to kill 10 people for every policeman that is attacked was responsible for the peaceful conduct of Lagos state elections.

Mbu made the utterance on Saturday at the state’s Command Headquatres after monitoring the election in some parts of the state. He was asked of his opinion on what he thought was responsible for the peaceful conduct of the elections, and he replied saying:

“Generally, people are becoming more and more mature, sensitive and reasonable.

“And anyway, the statement I made, which generated a lot of (controversy); people misconstrued it all over, but that also helped the police because people say, ‘this man has come o and whatever he says, he means it’, and that also instilled fear in them.

"Go and check all the places where I have served, how many people have died? We don’t kill that way. But you have to instill fear so that people will have more respect for the police.”

“You know how police were perceived those days, but now police give orders and people say police cannot do anything. But with those few words (I said), people are now scared and say, ‘if you misbehave, police are going to react’. Now we have succeeded as far as I am concerned.”
