Restriction of movement continues during environmental sanitation - Lagos govt

The Lagos state government says restriction of Movement during the monthly sanitation exercise is still in force. According to a post on their Facebook page, a federal high court today granted a stay of execution on the March 16th High court verdict nullifying the restriction of movement during environmental sanitation exercise in the state. This implies that until the appeal by the state govt is heard, the nullification of restriction of movement cannot be enforced. So stay at home, people! :-)

Buhari, Ezekwesili, Adichie and Shekau Make Time 100 Most Influential Persons

buhari-360x225
President-elect Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), former Minister of Education and an advocate of the BringBackOurGirlsGroup, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili; award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, and leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, have made the TIME’s list of 100 most influential people in the world.

The TIME 100 is an annual list of 100 most influential people in the world whose works are changing the world, regardless of the consequences of their actions.
According to Aryn Baker, TIME’s Africa Bureau Chief, Buhari made history in March by becoming the first candidate to oust a sitting Nigerian President through the ballot box.
“Now he has to live up to voters’ expectations. From battling the Boko Haram insurgency to tackling endemic corruption, Buhari has many challenges ahead. The greatest may be overcoming his past as a military ruler, who seized power in 1983.
“Already the born-again democrat is demonstrating the inclusivity necessary to lead a nation driven by ethnic and religious tension. It’s a promising start for a President-to-be, who wants to leave a legacy to match the historic conditions of his election.”
A Ugandan activist, Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, had this to say about Ezekwesili:
“It has been a year, and the girls (Chibok girls) haven’t been rescued, but she has made a difference by speaking about it. Not just speaking but shouting. I know some people will say she is too loudmouthed. The loud mouth is needed. People hear it.”
The deputy Managing Director of TIME, Radhika Jones, described Chimamanda Adichie, as a “conjurer of character” saying:
“It’s the rare novelist, who in the space of a year finds her words sampled by BeyoncĂ©, optioned by Lupita Nyong’o and honoured with the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction,” she said.
And the Boko Haram boss, Abubakar Shekau, was described as the “scourge of Africa” by Gen. Carter Ham(retd.), a former Commander of US Africa Command from 2011 to 2013.
That’s definition suits Sha=ekau well, but do you think he should have made the list – looks like encouraging evil to flourish or what do you think???

Pres. Jonathan breaks silence, speaks on why he conceded defeat

President Jonathan has given his reason for conceding defeat to President elect, Gen Buhari during the March 28th Presidential election. The President said he decided to concede to avoid a collective tragedy. He said there has to be a nation before any personal ambition can be fulfilled and that for him, what comes first is the nation before ambition. Pres Jonathan said this when he received the new French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denis Guaer (pictured left) at the state house yesterday April 16
"Since I assumed duty, I have been involved in quelling political crises in some African countries and I know what they passed through and what some are still going through. If you scuttle a system for personal ambition, it becomes a collective tragedy. You need to have a nation before you can have an ambition. It should always be the nation first. You don’t have to scuttle national progress for personal ambition. Democracy has to be nurtured to grow. Strong democratic institutions are the backbone and future of our democracy. They must be protected and nurtured. As for me, as a matter of principle, it is always the nation first" he said.

Run All Night

“When a man is driven by passion, he can do the unimaginable”. And no one knows this better than the amazing actor Liam Neeson.
The mention of his name immediately conjures action-filled images in one’s head. No one makes a crime more exciting than Liam.

From the “Taken” series to this new captivating movie “Run all Night”, Liam has shown he’s a master at this game and he never jokes with his own. He loves hard and fights harder so when you mess with anyone he loves, you better be a fantastic dancer because you WILL face the music.
You never want him as an enemy because no one wields a gun better than him. So when you are on the run, who else would you rather have as a protector?  We all know the answer to that.
This and so much more makes the new thriller “Run all night” absolutely spectacular. Situated in the Mafia world, Liam Neeson plays a former Irish mob enforcer who had to fight against his former boss who also happens to be his closest friend and an entire Mafia-nation in defense of his loved one. This action-packed, adrenaline pumping, heartbeat-increasing movie features other fantastic actors such as Joel Kinnaman, Common and Ed Harris and is certified to enthrall you from the beginning to the end.
But don’t take my word for it. Hurry to the nearest cinema starting Friday 17th April, 2015 with your family and friends because seeing they say, is believing.

Pics: Nigerians in South Africa seek Asylum at Home Affairs office

To avoid being killed or injured, some Nigerians who live in areas where Zulu boys have unleashed terror ran to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria to seek refuge. There, they claim the security asked them for money before they were allowed to enter the compound. Is Nigeria that bad that people would rather live like this than come home?
