Sunday Service in Nigeria Now Comes With Firearms as Worshippers Turn to Self-Protection (Northern Boko Haram killing christian)

Sunday Service in Nigeria Now Comes With Firearms as Worshippers Turn to Self-Protection

In a growing sign of Nigeria’s deepening insecurity, worshippers attending Sunday service in parts of the country are now arriving at church armed, choosing personal protection as a necessary companion to their faith.

What used to be a peaceful weekly routine has slowly transformed into an unsettling scene: men and women stepping into the house of God with rifles slung over their shoulders, not out of defiance but out of fear. For many, this is the only way they feel safe enough to gather and worship.

Residents say rising attacks on communities, churches, and travellers have forced ordinary citizens to take drastic measures. From rural villages to bustling towns, people now weigh the risks of attending service unarmed.

This is the reality we face,” a worshipper shared. “We want to pray, but we also want to return home alive.”

Security analysts warn that the sight of civilians carrying firearms in religious spaces is a troubling indicator of public distrust in the nation’s security structure. Churches that were once sanctuaries of peace now reflect Nigeria’s struggle with banditry, kidnappings, and unpredictable violence.

Local leaders continue to call for urgent intervention, insisting that Nigerians should not have to choose between faith and safety.

For many congregations, however,Sunday mornings will continue to be a mix of prayer, vigilance, and the quiet hope that one day, they can worship without fear.

The horrifying story of how Brigadier General M. Uba was ambushed, captured and executed by ISWAP terrorists

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16kdkAqoc4/

Nigeria don turn a place where everybody dey fear the same thing — insecurity. Every day, news of killings, kidnappings, attacks, robbery, and innocent people losing their lives without justice. Our leaders keep promising safety, yet the streets tell a different story.

At this point, survival no be by muscle or strength alone — na by wisdom, alertness, and God’s mercy.

But as we continue to demand a better Nigeria, let everyone follow these safety measures:

✅ Avoid late movements, especially in isolated areas.

✅ Share your location with trusted people when traveling.

✅ Don’t board unknown vehicles; use verified transport when possible.

✅ Stay vigilant in public places — watch movements, watch people.

✅ Keep emergency contacts on speed dial.

✅ Move in groups when attending gatherings or protests.

✅ Avoid displaying valuables unnecessarily.

✅ Report strange movements immediately to security teams around you.

✅ Always let someone know where you’re going and when you should arrive.

Nigeria is hard, but we must stay alive to see it change.

We will not be silent, and we will not stop demanding accountability.

A nation that cannot protect its people has already failed them.

More details between FCT minister Wike and military officers jam over land mata for Abuja

This particular soldier was specifically chosen for this mission by those who sent him, and he delivered excellently. Wike should be worried and careful because something is not right.

In the first slide, Wike was seen speaking with the CDS. In the second, he handed his own phone to the military officer to speak with the CDS. In the last slide, the military personnel was speaking with the CDS.

After the calls, the officer still insisted that Wike could not enter the land, and at the end of all the gra gra, Wike left the premises while the soldiers stood their ground.

Common sense should tell you that even the CDS Wike called didn’t give the order he was expecting.

That means the officer was acting under a higher or well defined instruction, not mere politics. Wike should be worried because that soldier’s calm confidence came from authority and backing.

When a military man refuses to bend, even after you call the Chief of Defence Staff, it means the matter has gone beyond your influence.

And then, a supposed FCT Minister calling the CDS to report, and even handing his own phone to a military officer to speak with the CDS, is a clear sign of a struggling authority, a man whose power is being quietly tested and possibly reduced. It shows desperation, not leadership.

Video: FCT minister Wike and military officers jam over land mata for Abuja

The news regarding the confrontation between armed soldiers and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) in Abuja on Tuesday November 11th, 2025 generated mixed reactions after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.

In a twist of events, workers on site at an ongoing building project belonging to the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo were told to stop work, prompting the former military chief to seek assistance from armed soldiers.

Reacting, Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to the former governor of Rivers State and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, disclosed the reasons behind the controversial confrontation.

According to his explanations, he pointed out that because the former military chief was told to stop erecting a building on a site not approved by the FCTA, he sent his armed men to attack their officials.

The confrontation, which had sparked massive public debate, occurred at a time when the country was expected to answer series of questions regarding security matters.
