Boko Haram brings Mubi under Sharia, Amputates 10 & warns Christians to relocate or be islamised

Members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, have instituted the Shara law in Mubi, Adamawa State, captured by the insurgents last week. The insurgents were also said to have amputated the hands of 10 residents said to have been found guilty of sundry offences, including looting of property of fleeing residents.

According to Punch, Sources in Mubi town said they saw the terrorists parading 10 persons whose hands were said to have been amputated. The victims were said to been amputated in the presence of residents the insurgents asked to converge to witness the enforcement of Sharia law.

An eye witness account indicated that two imams were dragged out from a mosque and beheaded for allegedly preaching against Boko Haram. The insurgents also advised all Christians in the Mubi Local Government Area to relocate to other areas except they were prepared to be islamised or be killed.

The source further said that the Emir’s palace in Mubi had been converted to the residence of the ‘Amir’ and that the insurgents hoisted their flags to signify that they were in control of the palace.

Our correspondent learnt that the most affected by the development in Mubi were students of the Adamawa State University and the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. The students were said to have gone through torture before some of them reportedly escaped through the border between Nigeria and Cameroun.

Some of them were said to still be in the bush.
“I must give thanks and praises to God almighty for spearing my life; I saw as people were being slaughtered like goats. I am too happy to see myself alive,” a female student of the Federal Polytechnic, told our correspondent in Yola on Sunday.
The insurgents said their mode of prayer was different from what Muslims in the town were used to and that they were “in Mubi to restore Islamic independence to the people and anybody who does not follow us must be killed.”
“We are not to hurt anyone but to free the people from religious slavery,” a source quoted the insurgents to have said.

Fashola blasts TAN, says Jonathan not Transforming Anything

Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola has lampooned the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) for orchestrating the return of President Goodluck Jonathan administration through false claims saying, “This government is unwilling; it has nothing to offer Nigerians.”

Despite the series of adverts powered by TAN to convince Nigerians, Fashola, who spoke as a keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of Women In Business (Wimbiz) Conference held at the Eko Hotels in Victoria Island, said he remained convinced that the country under the leadership of PDP was not transforming the country as portrayed by the group.

According to him, “Where the North East is under siege and the economy has continued to nose-dive, the Transformation Ambassadors have continued to distort the true information that all is well."

Fashola said: "All it takes to cripple our economy by those country from where we buy oil is to say they won’t sell to us any longer.
“We have seen a good example where the country was denied access from buying arms. This is the situation we are as regards importation of oil.
“The government is yet to give us power as promised; they are yet to give us fuel; we are yet to see the standard highways they promised. There are so many Nigerians living without electricity."

Fashola lamented that thousands of people in the North East had been killed or turned refugees, over 200 girls still in captivity of insurgents with the North East still under siege, “yet the Transformation Ambassadors are telling Nigerians that all is well.”

He said there are so many indices to show that the country is yet to be transformed, pointing out that all the promises made by the Jonathan’s government in 2011 to Nigerians are yet to be fulfilled.

He noted that the Jonathan’s administration in 2011 promised to generate 16,000 megawatts by 2013, including harnessing coal opportunity, wind and solar to generate 13,000 megawatt electricity, noting that this is yet to be seen to become a reality.

He said, “I agree with him (President Jonathan) that electricity is key development for Nigeria. I agree with him entirely but how well have we gone till today?”

According to him, when the price of oil stood at $100 per barrel for almost a decade, the PDP led government has not been able to transform the country noting that these days when the price of oil has dropped to $80 per barrel, it’s obvious the government at the centre cannot do better with lean purse.

'My Mother Had Been Behaving Strangely" - Daughter of Alleged Abuja 'Witch'

A middle-aged woman, Ope Kubona, caused a stir in Kubwa, Abuja, yesterday when she was found naked on the rooftop of the All Saint’s Fellowship Church close to the Kubwa Village market.

According to reports, Kubona, who was well known and sold beans cake (akara) in the area was immediately branded a witch by the huge number of spectators that were drawn to the scene and would have been lynched by the angry mob if not for the quick intervention of the police.

She was eventually brought down from the rooftop by a police team, led by the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, Surajudeen Ayobami. Her children brought clothes to cover her before she was taken
to the station.

Talking with PUNCH Metro, the DPO said Kubona was brought to the station and placed under protective custody in view of the aggression of the crowd towards her. He said:
“We rescued the woman from the All Saint’s Fellowship Church, where we found her naked on the rooftop. I learnt she has psychiatric problems, but the spectators believed she was a witch and wanted to attack her, so we had to bring her to the station and place her under protective custody.”
However, at the Police station, the woman went berserk, shouting at her children and the policemen. She almost attacked a pregnant woman, who attempted to take her picture with a smart phone. Talking to no one in particular, she described herself as a “prayer warrior” and abused her children for disrupting her peace. Attempts to engage her in a conversation failed as she refused to respond to questions from PUNCH Metro.

One of her children, Elizabeth, 21, said her mother had been behaving strangely for about three months, adding that moves to take her back to her village in Okitipupa, Ondo State, failed, as she refused to leave the house.

On that fateful day, Elizabeth said she observed that her mother disappeared from their room around 4am, only to be found later stark naked on the roof of the church.
“It was around 4am that I noticed that she was not in the room, but I didn't know where to search for her because it was dark. But in the morning, one of our neighbours saw her on the roof of the church and came to tell us that our mother was on the church roof. The police later came and brought her down, “she said.

Kanu Nwankwo storms Surulere in support of Desmond Elliot

Kanu Nwankwo, one of the most respected footballers in Africa and United Nations Ambassador, recently gave a big boost to the political aspiration of Desmond Olushola Elliot (DOE) at a political forum recently.

Kanu told the gathering, which took place in Surulere, he believed Desmond Elliot will make the constituents and the people of Surulere proud when elected into the Lagos House of Assembly, just as he too had made Nigeria and Nigerians very proud as a good representative of the country abroad. He made the declaration at forum organized for Desmond Elliot to meet a group of Widows in Surulere.

While addressing the crowd, Elliot spoke extensively on the several community based projects he has been sponsoring over the years, some of which include;
sponsoring of over twenty (20) students’ tertiary education at the National Open University, Talent Sponsorship for the Entertainment Industry, working in partnership with some financial institutions to give loans to micro businesses and medical support. He also spoke on the many social plans his party, the All Progressives Congress, has for Nigerian women.

Prior to signifying interest in politics, Elliot had for several years established a humanitarian foundation that has been meeting the needs of poor communities in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda and some other African communities. These are the past and present good works done that has positioned him as the choice candidate that will truly address the needs of the people, especially those in his constituency when elected their representative in 2015.

Desmond Olushola Elliot is contesting for the post of Representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) on the platform of the APC, representing Surulere Constituency 1. He has received immense support from his immediate Nollywood community, his numerous fans and major APC party caucuses within the local government since flagged off his campaign.
