Nigerians Must Hold Jonathan Presidency Responsible for That Crazy Invasion ––Tinubu

By deploying hundreds of police officers to prevent the Speaker of the House of Representatives from entering the National Assembly Complex, the President has revealed his hand to be a devious one. Having asked the Speaker to convene the House to consider extending the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, the Jonathan government then deployed the nation’s police to stop the fourth ranking citizen of the nation from entering his place of work.

Speaker Tambuwal was going to the House as a result of the letter from the Presidency on a matter of urgent national importance. Tambuwal did not have to accede to the presidential request to reconvene the House; but because he is a statesman and not a political hack, he assented so his chamber might consider this a matter of vital national importance.

Despite the removal of the police officers and security team around him, he still proceeded - at great personal risk - to answer the call of duty. He took the risk, believing his personal situation was a secondary thing when the fate of the nation comes into question.

The President and his men have their handwriting all over the invasion of the National Assembly.No Commissioner of Police will ever embark on such an action without the clearance of the Inspector General of Police and no IGP will order his men out here without approval by the Presidency.

Nigerians know where the buck stops. The Jonathan Presidency must take full responsibility for the attack on the leadership of the National Assembly.

This government cannot claim to be unaware of what the Police would do. This gangster’s antic occurred almost at their doorstep. The Jonathan presidency can no longer   play ignorant regarding the noxious things done for partisan ends.

Instead of seriously treating Boko Haram’s incursion against our internal security, the President’s men decided to turn the event into a partisan and embarrassing circus.  Perhaps they saw this as a birthday present to Mr. President. But it is nothing but brigandage masquerading as governance. What this Presidency does not realize is how terribly it has exposed its pettiness and dictatorial penchant for elevating narrow political interests above the fate of the nation.

There is little wonder the nation is losing ground to Boko Haram. This government has allowed, and even welcomed, the downward slide. If seriously committed to breaking the spine of this insurgency, the Jonathan government would have ensured that the House met without disturbance or partisan rancor. Instead, Jonathan and his men used the gravest armed threat the nation has suffered in forty years to lay a partisan political trap for one single man, instead allowing the House to deliberate for the good of 170 million people hoping for a way out of the growing carnage. 

The conduct of the Presidency shows that whenever dire national interests conflict with that of individual ambitions, the former will be rejected to violently promote the latter.  The priorities of the Jonathan Presidency are as wrong as wrong can get. Their actions are devoid of national purpose. They reek of pungent ambition.  A weakness of character now permeates national leadership.

This Presidency leaves the nation’s grave problems unattended yet have the rashness to create new ones by trashing the nation’s democratic institutions and mocking constitutional checks and balances. The most notable achievement of the Jonathan government has been to bring democracy to its knees.  This is not the hallmark of a President but the work of a potentate.

While enjoying the taste of this cheap tactical victory, it is hoped Nigerians and the international community are   sampling the bigger picture.  In trying to quash the opposition by all means necessary, this government unleash forces they do not even recognize let alone control. 

Thus, Nigerians are in a precarious situation. In the face of the menace of Boko Haram’s terror and rampage, members of the loyal opposition have extended the hand of cooperation to this government often and without condition. We have provided suggestions on fighting the group and winning the hearts and minds of the people. Had the Jonathan government taken these suggestions, things would not be as they are today.  This government scoffed at our help. Even when the Speaker answered the call of duty, as a patriot should, Jonathan and his men were more concerned with setting an ambush for him than in resolving the serious matter at hand.  For them, the only serious matter, was their political standing. 

While the opposition has been loyal to the nation,  Jonathan and the PDP led government  have not. This is the point of our greatest departure from the course.

The Jonathan Presidency is a government that has lost its head. This government has run amok and has jettisoned all sense of proportion. The nation now faces two threats. One is Boko Haram’s attack on the people. The other is the Presidency’s attack on the people’s democracy. As such, a state of emergency now exists in Abuja, in Aso Villa itself, because of this breakdown of democratic governance. Jonathan and his men are the reason for the state of emergency. It seems that the only way this emergency shall be lifted is for this government to perpetuate itself in office. The removal of this government from office shall not be done with military power, armed might or police brutality. Their ouster will come from a nobler source; the power of the people and their want for democratic good governance.

Obasanjo speaks again: Jonathan’s performance below average

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan as far below average. He stated this on Friday while speaking with book writers in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of activities marking the popular Ake Festival.

When asked of his view on Jonathan’s administration so far, Obasanjo said:

“His performance is below average. I will not accept responsibility for his performance. There is nobody that gets such a position without being helped.”

The former President also debunked the insinuations that he had selected Jonathan as the running mate to the late President Musa Yar’Adua because he knew the latter was sick.

“Yar’Adua told me he was well. He showed me his medical report and I even consulted experts,” he said.

He said he had only supported the idea of a South-Southerner succeeding Yar’Adua to extend the sense of belonging that the emergence of a Southern President in 1999 represented.

When the former President was also asked on why he preferred Jonathan to the former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, he said, “In my own life, I don’t put all my eggs in one basket. Duke was young enough to be in the reserve.

“He did not agree with me. Donald Duke is my friend but he needs a little of toning down. He needs to get his feet on the ground.”

The former President had, in a December 2, 2013, 18-page letter to Jonathan titled: “Before it is too late” raised many issues concerning Jonathan’s administration.

According to Punch, the Presidency has also reacted to the statement credited to Obasanjo that Jonathan’s performance is below average, claiming it was “not true and in error.”

In a telephone chat with Punch, Doyin Okupe said, “If indeed former President Obasanjo said that, that statement was in error because no government since independence has done close to 50 percent of what this administration has done in less than four years,” Okupe said.

Police IG orders Arrest of Tambuwal; Speaker Reacts

Feelers from the Police Headquarters in Abuja indicated that the IG of Police, Abba Sulaiman has ordered the arrest of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The obnoxious order was given following a showdown between the police and members of the House of Reps on Thursday, after the police blocked the entrance to the National Assembly and prevented the Speaker from gaining entrance, forcing some of the lawmakers who were with him to scale the locked gate and go into the chambers of the House, where they stalled plans to begin impeachment proceedings against the popular Speaker.

"I can confirm to you that the order for his arrest has been given today (Friday). The signal from the IG’s office specifically directed the FCT and Sokoto State commissioners of Police to serve Tambuwal with notice of invitation to the force headquarters and if he resists, he should be arrested immediately.

"The involvement of the Sokoto commissioner of police is because the Speaker was sighted in Sokoto where he picked the APC’s governorship form for the forthcoming election. It was assumed that he was out of Abuja and as such, other police divisions were involved in the matter."

A sources at the police headquarters told LEADERSHIP that a similar arrest order had been issued by the SSS.

Sources privy to details of the meeting in the Villa said both VP Sambo and the NSA Sambo Dasuki berated the IGP for failure of his men to prevent Tambuwal from gaining access into National Assembly.

“The NSA was particularly angry and told the IG in clear terms that he doesn’t know his job. He asked how the Speaker and the members broke a cordon put in place by the FCT police commissioner. The NSA then made it clear that the police authorities must rectify the anomalies or they would face the consequences. He promised that Tambuwal would be arrested for questioning,” the source added.

Reacting to the news of his planned arrest by the IG, Tambuwal noted that he is a law abiding citizen who has no immunity against arrest and prosecution except privileges as may be provided by the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act.

He said he is available, ready and willing to answer any lawful invitation from any of the security agencies on any matter for which they may require his attention.

Meanwhile, but for the resoluteness of the Sergeant-at-arms at the National Assembly who insisted that he would only handover the mace of office to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal, the embattled Speaker would have lost his job on Thursday.

This was part of strategies by the PDP, working on cohorts with the executive to impeach the Speaker who recently decamped to major opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a source privy to the development, the acting Sergeant-at-arms at the National Assembly, Mr. Ibrahim Ndako was asked to surrender the mace but he had refused, insisting that Tambuwal is still the Speaker of the House and he would not release the mace to any other person but him.

“As part of their strategy, the police tried to seize the mace from the sergeant-at-arms but he refused to give it to them. If they got it, it would have made things a lot easier for them. When they failed to compel him to handover the mace to them, they detained him overnight from Wednesday, and only released him on Thursday after crisis erupted at the National Assembly.

“What happened at the National Assembly became necessary following the desperation of the PDP and the federal government to remove the Speaker from office by all means," a source revealed.

Mother-of-three Renita Chaney Hill, who appeared alongside the comedian in the educational program, said the pair had relationship for four years during the 1980s while he paid her college tuition.

According to Daily Mail,The 47-year-old  said she would be flown to different cities around the country and when they stayed in hotels, he would insist she had a drink, even though she was still in high school.

She told KDKA she believed that is when he drugged her as she did not remember anything until she woke up the next morning.

The pair first met when Cosby was in Pittsburgh filming for his children's educational show Picture Pages. He fronted the educational program aimed at pre-school children from 1974 until the early 1980s

'He would fly me to a number of cities. I remember another time when I woke up in my bed the next day and he was leaving, he mentioned you should probably lose a little weight. I thought that odd, how would he know that.

When she turned 19, she cut off all ties with Cosby, even though he was paying her way through school.She told the station she has no apologies for waiting 30 years to tell the story and said she decided to come forward when Cosby's lawyers criticized other alleged victims. 

Hill added: 'No one wants to be associated with something like this. But the bottom line for me is that no one has the right to violate someone else, no matter who they are. I don’t care how big they are or how the community sees them, it’s not right.'

THE WOMEN WHO SAY THEY WERE ATTACKED BY COSBY

Andrea Constand - 

A Temple University employee, she claimed in 2006 that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Philadelphia-area mansion two years earlier. Cosby eventually settled this suit out of court as the prosecution said they had 13 Jane Does who would testify Cosby did the same to them in the past.

Barbara Bowman -

 Bowman told MailOnline that Cosby raped and drugged her back in 1985 when she was a 17-year-old aspiring actress. Bowman was one of the 13 Jane Does in the 2006 trial against Cosby.

Joan Tarshis - 

Tarshis claimed that she was just 19-years-old when Cosby drugged and raped her twice in Hollywood back in 1969 while she was working as a writer for him.

Janice Dickinson - 

The supermodel said in an interview that Cosby asked her to come to Lake Tahoe and talk about a television role in 1982, but ended up drugging and raping her.

Tamara Green -

 Green, who first came forward in 2005 told MailOnline that she was an aspiring actress in the 1970s when Cosby gave her pills and pretended to care for her while she had the flu, but instead sexually assaulted her.

Therese Serignese - 

Also one of the 13 Jane Does, she says she was 19 when Cosby drugged and raped her in Las Vegas after one of his shows.

Louisa Moritz - 

She accused Cosby of sexual assault, saying he once forced her into oral sex, backstage at The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1971, and implied he would further her career if she went through with it.

Linda Joy Traitz -

 She said earlier this week that she was just 19 when Cosby drove her out to a beach and tried to get her to take pills to relax, before becoming 'sexually aggressive'. Traitz, of Hallandale Beach, Florida, has been charged in the past with trafficking pills. Cosby's attorney, Marty Singer, is trying to use Traitz's past to discredit her claims against his client.

 Beth Ferrier -

Beth Ferrier claims she had relationship with Cosby in the mid-1980s. She claims that she awoke in her car with her clothes in disarray and not remembering what had happened. Ferrier has claimed that he drugged her coffee.

Carla Ferrigno - 

The wife of Incredible Hulk star Lou Ferrigno, claims Cosby tried to sexually assault her during a gathering at his house in 1967. What's more, Cosby allegedly tried to use a friend to help court Ferrigno, and allegedly made his move on the former Playboy Bunny just moments after his own wife, Camille, left the room.

Angela Leslie - 

The former model-actress claims that Cosby forced her to masturbate him in his Vegas hotel suite after giving her a strong drink in 1992.

Renita Chainey Hill - 

The 47-year-old mother-of-three who met Cosby when she was offered a role on Picture Pages in Pittsburgh claimed he would fly her to different cities around the United States and drug her during a four-year relationship.

Two robbery suspects, still cooling off at the detention centre of the Department of State Security, Bayelsa State Command, have confessed to the killing of the Administrative Secretary of Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, Chief Simeon Akpane.

The suspects, Freedom Allen, 26; Clarkson Okilo, 27, popularly known as Oyoyo, said they killed the BYSIEC ranking official because they were broke and had no jobs.

In their revelation, they said they had set out to rob on the fateful day, October 10, 2014, with nobody in mind, however, Akpane’s flashy Sport Utility Vehicle seemed to have given him away as a rich man.

Allen, who did not betray any emotion as he gave a chilling account of the dastardly act, confessed he was the one that killed Akpane.He said he did so because he was afraid that Akpane, who was shouting and resisting them during the operation, could expose them to danger.He told Punch

 “On the fateful day, my friend, Oyoyo, said we should go for an operation. He said he knew somebody who had about N1.5m that we should go and rob. That man was Chief Akpane. So, we both went out together.

“We (Oyoyo, Ebi and I) went to the place and saw him and on getting close to him, Oyoyo and Ebi accosted him, seized him and collected his mobile handset. The next thing we saw was that he started shouting while he held Ebi who was with the gun.

“Our thought was that since Ebi was with the gun and the man had held him, he might shoot any of us. So, I quickly collected the gun from Ebi. I did not know that Ebi had already corked the gun and in the process of collecting it, I mistakenly touched the trigger and the gun fired and hit the man. “He fell down and we had to run away as fear gripped us. Therefore, we could not accomplish our mission of robbing him. We went in separate directions.”

Narrating the role he played, Oyoyo, who showed great confidence as he made his confession, said he was very broke and he seriously needed money.The suspect, who claimed to be a professional driver, said,

 “On the fateful day, I didn’t have money, so I went to a place in Biogbolo area to smoke and take some alcohol. After that, I went to Yenezue-gene. As I was walking, I heard a voice calling me by the corner. When I turned back, I saw Allen and Ebi. Allen said they were just standing there, looking for how to get money.

“For me, that was the kind of story I wanted to hear then because I had been financially messed around all the while. There was no work. I am a driver but had no job. Allen told me he had a local pistol and to prove it, he showed me the pistol.

“Allen said we should use the gun to go and fetch some money. We all agreed to go, honestly. We boarded a tricycle (Keke) to Biogbolo. On getting there, we saw a man coming in his flashy Jeep. We believed he should have money. Honestly, I must confess that before we set out for the operation, we did not have any place in mind. We were just roving about. Our intention was to look for people with fine cars to rob and get money, irrespective of who the person was.”

Oyoyo explained that as they were moving about, they saw the BYSIEC official even though he claimed they did not know who he was then.He said

, “The now deceased BYSIEC official parked his car and came out. He was about to enter his house when we accosted him. We pointed the gun at him. He was holding his mobile phone, which I collected from him.

“To my surprise, he was not willing to obey us and we were still prevailing on him to cooperate. Before we knew it, Allen came from the back and dragged the gun from Ebi’s hand and without wasting time, he pulled the trigger and shot the man. I was outraged and I asked him why he shot the man. I guess Allen didn’t know what he did because he had been smoking and had stuffed his brain with too much alcohol. At that point, fear consumed us and we took to our heels. Thereafter, we boarded a tricycle and alighted at PDP Junction.”

Oyoyo, who said he had the man’s telephone with him, said he had to sell it to get some money.

He claimed to have sold the expensive telephone for N5,000 to one Ibrahim at Yenezue-gene, who in turn sold it for N6,000 to one Halladu.
