Prof Wole Soyinka likens GEJ to Biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, presidency reacts

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka today likened Pres. Jonathan to the biblical Babylonian autocrat, King Nebuchadnezzar.

While speaking at a press conference at the Freedom Park in Lagos today, with the theme: “King Nebuchadnezzar – the reign of impunity,” Prof Wole Soyinka said Pres. Jonathan’s administration has become known for lawlessness and that Nigerians have been thrown into the furnace of fire just like Shedrack, Mishak and Abednego were thrown into the furnace by Nebuchadnezzar for not bowing down to him.Choi! Lol. Continue to read what he said...

"You should easily recall why I opted for King Nebu – the figure that currently sits on the top of our political pile himself evoked it, albeit in a context that virtuously disclaimed any similarities, even tendencies. Perhaps he meant it at the time when he claimed: ‘I am not Nebuchadnezzar.’ Perhaps not. One judges leaders on acts however, not pronouncements, which are often as reliable as electoral promises. King Nebu remains relevant – and not only for leadership. We, the citizens, are beginning to feel the heat. We wake up each morning to a sensation that we have been cast into the furnace together with those who at least committed the crime of dissent or criticism".
Prof Soyinka also berated the Inspector General of Police for invading the National Assembly
"The recent choice of a new leader for the guard was clearly no accident, and this hitherto unknown enforcer, one Suleiman Abba, has wasted no time in inaugurating a season of brutish power. When a people’s elected emissaries are disenfranchised, cast out like vagrants and resort to scaling fences to engage in their designated functions, the people get the message”.
He applauded the lawmakers who scaled the National Assembly fence on November 20th, saying it wasn't a show of shame but rather the finest moments of the lawmakers.

In a swift reaction, the Special Assistant to President Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, described the submission of Prof Soyinka as unfortunate. According to Dr Okupe, "it is quite saddening to note that Prof Wole had become so close to the opposition party so much that he has stopped giving appreciable and unbiased contribution to national topics. Our eminent professor also sadly plays the ostrich as he failed to reprimand Governor Amaechi, who is the ‘national champion of impunity and official recklessness’. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan prides itself as the most liberal, keeping faith with adherence to rule of law and tolerance,”.

He accused the Nobel laureate of ignoring what he termed the immoral, indefensible and unlawful attitude of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, after his defection.

Music producer, others arrested with N374million worth of banned substances

An Asaba based music producer, Micheal Okafor (pictured above) and three other Nigerians based in South Africa namely, Obi John Chukwuenyem, Gilbert Kelvin and Deborah Ifeoma, have been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for having in their possessions, banned drugs weighing 41.625 kilogrammes comprising 36.675kg of methamphetamine and 4.95 kilogrammes of cocaine with an estimated street value of over N374,625million.

The suspects were all arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) while departing and arriving Nigeria. Speaking on their arrest, the Lagos Airport NDLEA Commander, Mr Hamza Umar said Obi John Chukwuenyem (48) was arrested with 21.695 kilogrammes of methamphetamine found inside his bag; Gilbert Kelvin (37) with 9.980 kilogrammes of methamphetamine concealed inside solar security lamps; Deborah Ifeoma who is a mother of seven (40) with five kilogrammes of methamphetamine packed inside foodstuff while Okafor Michael (44) the music producer was with 4.95 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden inside silicon sealants.

When interrogated, some of the suspects said they were not aware the drugs were concealed in their goods. Obi John who lives in South Africa, said he ventured into the business so he could pay his children's school fees
“I struggle to feed my family by selling foodstuff. Now, the business is near-moribund. A friend met me on my birthday and introduced me into drug trafficking. He promised to pay me 15,000 South Africa rand. My children are out of school because of my inability to pay tuition fee. This is the first time I would deal in drugs and I regret everything. I pray to be out of this problem” he said.
Gilbert, who claims to be into importation and exportation of phones and clothes, said he has five children from three women and has suffered major loses in his business
“My business is grounded and I now live from hand to mouth. My South African friend for over ten years gave me solar lamps where the drug was found. He used to assist me financially and he also promised to pay my children’s school fees.”
Deborah who is a mother of seven said
“I take care of my seven children from selling foodstuffs. I came to Nigeria to buy foodstuffs like melon, vegetables and other local spices. I approached a man in South Africa for financial assistance to enable me expand my business. He called me that somebody would give me some food items for him. When I got to the airport, NDLEA officers detected methamphetamine in the package given to me by the man. This was how I found myself in this situation”.
For the Asaba based musician who was coming into Nigeria from Brazil when he was apprehended, said he was not aware the hard substances were in a bag a friend gave him to deliver to someone in Nigeria
“I am a music producer. I traveled to Brazil to promote my music label and to partner other producers. I had a successful deal but on my way back, I accepted a bag from a friend I met in Sao Paulo to take to Nigeria. When I got here, NDLEA demanded to search and 29 out of the 34 sealants were found to contain cocaine. This is a major setback for my career and I feel very bad.”

Baby suffocates to death while sleeping in between his parents

A 6-week-old baby named Noah Pearson (pictured above), suffocated to death in his sleep after being deprived of oxygen while sleeping in between his parent in bed at their home in Bradford, in West Yorkshire.

According to the UK Telegraph, Noah's parents, Paul Pearson 24 and Emily Lambert 22, had left him with his grandmother while they went out with friends for drinks for the first time in a year. They returned at about 3.30am the following day drunk but still took their baby from the grandmother...

Noah's father took him into their room to sleep in his Moses basket which was placed by his side of their bed. But when Noah started to cry around 5am, his father took him from the Moses basket and brought him into the bed he shared with his partner and placed him between them.

When the couple woke up at about 8.50am, they found blood coming out from Noah's nostrils. He was immediately taken to the Bradford Royal hospital where test showed he died from Sudden Infant Death syndrome after being deprived of oxygen.

At an inquest, a doctor warned of the dangers of parents sleeping with their babies as a coroner said a contributary factor in Noah's death on May 31 was "co-sleeping and parental alcohol consumption".

Consultant paediatrician Dr Eduardo Moya told the hearing that the parents' decision to co-sleep with their baby and having consumed alcohol that night may have contributed to their baby's death. He said baby Noah was found to have a minor rhino virus, akin to a nose cold.

Dr Moya said:
"The not deliberate and unfortunate set of circumstances is well-documented - bed sharing with parents combined with alcohol consumption. Furthermore one or both of the parents did smoke and that could be a contributory factor as that baby had a rhino viral infection. There are a series of risk factors that increase the likelihood of having SIDS. One reason bed sharing is considered dangerous is that one parents could roll on to the infant in the middle of the night."
"This was a tragedy and there is nobody as fault but I believe it is important to know the etymology of SIDS. These are contributory factors because we don't know the ultimate cause of SIDS. I pass my condolences on to the family. It was clear to me when I went to see them that nobody did anything wrong or deliberate. It was an unfortunate tragedy."

ISIS leader, al-Baghdadi's wife and daughter detained in Lebanon

The Lebanese army claim they have detained the wife and daughter of ISIS terror group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as they crossed from Syria nine days ago.

According to Jerusalem Post, the woman identified as Saja al-Dulaimi, an Iraqi, was reportedly traveling with a fake passport when she was arrested and detained in coordination with "foreign intelligence", according to a senior Lebanese political source and security official.

A Lebanese security official said that a DNA test was conducted on the girl traveling with the woman to verify it was Baghdadi's child. It proved positive.

The arrest is a blow to the terror leader as the wife and daughter could be used against his group, especially as a bargaining chip. The terror group has captured many foreigners.

There is currently no immediate reaction from Islamic State websites.

Governor Fashola opens register for sex offenders in Lagos State

Kudos to Lagos State Governor, Raji Fashola who is the first Nigerian governor to open a sex offenders register. He signed an executive order to provide for compulsory reporting of actual or suspected child abuse and establishment of a sex offenders’ register at the State House, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, yesterday Dec. 1st.

He also identified Alimosho, Kosofe, Agege and Oshodi-Isolo Local Govt as the councils with the highest cases of Sexual and Gender Based Violence crimes in the state...
Below is what Fashola said
“I will like to tell those perpetrating the act in these local governments (Alimosho, Kosofe, Agege and Oshodi-Isolo) to desist now because we would be coming after them. We will combat these crimes so that they do not become big crimes in the state. Also, in order to ensure that criminals are monitored, we have created a crime data register which states everyone who has engaged the criminal justice system of the state, and we have close to a 100, 000 offenders on that register. And very soon, we would start deploying people to the data rooms in the police stations across the state to gather the bio data of offenders including their photographs and others.
“This was why we have asked everyone to register so that before you employ anyone, you will know his track record. And this is the time for everyone especially women to speak against it. This is the time for us to have a local enforcement unit; either we call it state police or whatever name we wish to call it, to protect the women from frequent abuse from the opposite gender. This is the time for women to rise up and challenge employers who sets unimaginable targets for their female employees. These were targets they could not set for men,” he said
The Lagos State Attorney-General Mr Ade Ipaye added that
“We monitoring one hundred and thirteen 113 sexual violence cases currently at the High Court. The Team is working actively to ensure prompt prosecution of these cases. The major aim of the Sex Offenders Monitoring Programme and the Mandated Reporter policy is to reduce repeat cases by providing names and personal details of convicted sex offenders in the State to a central database. The Database will be accessible to individuals and organizations that need information. For example, School proprietors who want to recruit can access this Register as a form of background check.
“The Mandated Reporter policy will make it compulsory for all State School Administrators, Counsellors, Teachers, Social Welfare Officers and any other official of the State Government having any dealings with children to report any suspected or actual child abuse or neglect to the Attorney-General’s office. It is envisaged that the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register will be open and maintained by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in partnership with the Lagos State Judiciary, the Nigerian Prisons and the Nigerian Police”. "Kenyans, why me of all this hatred?" T.B Joshua reacts to reports dead lawyer had ties with him

T.B Joshua has reacted to reports that a Kenyan lawyer who committed suicide on November 26th had ties with his Church. The man's family linked his bizarre death to Synagogue Church of All Nations as the late lawyer and wife were alleged to be strong followers of his church.

The man, Paul Magu (pictured above with wife) killed his wife, Lydia, and mutilated her body before committing suicide. The couple's 3 children are also now missing. To understand this better, read the report from Kenyan publications about the story and T.B Joshua's reaction to it after the cut...

Police probe cult link in couple's bizarre death
Could the dead parents of the three missing children in Nairobi have been members of a religious cult? That was one of the theories that detectives were pursuing Monday after the family revealed to them that lawyer Paul Magu and his wife Lydia Wangui were staunch followers of controversial Nigerian TB Joshua's Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan).
Magu's passport showed he had travelled to Nigeria more than 20 times since 2009 to attend the church services. On September 12, 2014, the church's guesthouse collapsed in Lagos killing 84 South Africans. Monday, the family and police intensified their search for the missing children, concentrating on major dams in Kiambu and Thika.
The children went missing on Tuesday after the bodies of their parents were found in separate locations in Nairobi and Thika. They were identified as Allen, 9, Ryan, 8, and Tiffany Muthoni, 5.
Police suspect Magu may have killed the wife on November 23 in their house at Muthaiga Pipeline Estate after he sent their house-help to town twice for shopping. This was after bloodstains were found in their bedroom. And after the woman was killed, her body was burnt outside their house and later stashed in a sack waiting for disposal the following day, police said.
The mutilated body of Wangui was found near Paradise Lost along Kiambu Road in Nairobi on November 24 and later taken to the City Mortuary. And the body of Magu was found on the Thika-Garissa highway near Ngoliba on Wednesday where police believe he had either committed suicide after jumping onto a speeding bus. Officers from CID's Serious Crime Unit handling the case and have visited the scenes where the bodies were found and home of the couple
Head of the Unit John Kariuki said they are yet to know the motive of the deaths and the link to the missing children. The family said Monday they had searched thickets near where Magu's car was found abandoned with the engine running, mortuaries, dams and talked to the extended family and friends in a bid to find the children in vain. Magu's younger brother Andrew Kamau said before he died, Magu had contacted his lawyers to sign a will whose details he refused to divulge. On Tuesday, Magu spent the night at his father's home in Thika before he woke up early on the fateful day. Whereas he had left his city home with his children, he was not with them when he arrived at his father's home in Thika, police said. According to Kamau, Magu arrived at their home in Thika at about 2pm and held a brief talk with the parents before he excused himself and walked away.
He returned about five hours later while wet, claiming he had been attacked by thugs and robbed his mobile phone near a pond near his father's homestead. The mobile phone was, however, found near the pond and police say they want to know who he had talked to before he died.

Here's another report from another Kenyan site - Hekaheka.com. Above are the missing kids
Detectives in Kenya are now following a possible cult link in the bizarre death of city lawyer Paul Magu and his wife. Members of the family revealed to police that Paul and his wife Lydia Wangui were staunch followers of controversial Nigerian TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations.
Magu’s passport indicated he had traveled to Nigeria over 20 times to attend TB Joshua’s church.

This was the earlier story we covered in regards to the gruesome deaths of Paul Muga his wife & daughter:
Three children are missing after a bizarre incident of what the police are now terming as murder suicide. Allen, 9, Ryan, 8, Tiffany muthoni, 5.
  • In the latest development, Tiffany Muthoni the little girl burnt with sulphuric acid and dumped in a Ruiru coffee farm.

Paul and his wife were later found dead on Wednesday, under mysterious circumstances.

  •  Lydia Wangui, 30, was found badly mutilated near paradise resort along Kiambu road Nairobi.

  •  Paul Magu, 35, is said to have  jumped onto the road along Thika- Garisaa highway where he died instantly.

Evidence was collected from the family home at Muthaiga Pipeline estate in the hope of finding the clues that would aid in understanding what lead to the death of the parents.

Police uncovered a note in the house that was left by Paul. It read as follows:

“I cannot live in ridicule and embarrassment as a result of poverty,”

Different versions of the story are now abounding with neighbors claiming it was a ritualistic sacrifice for a church he apparently served.

Police discovered literature and audiovisual content of a Nigerian pastor, at the muthaiga house.

Also at the parking lot of the house were two brand new top of the range vehicles.

This is T.B Joshua's statement - posted on his Facebook page this afternoon...
This is an official statement from Prophet T.B. Joshua. My attention has been drawn to several publications in Kenyan media alleging that Mr Paul Magu had visited The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria over 20 times. These reports are both untrue and ridiculous. It must take a religious spirit to believe and say this!
Thousands of people come here with their problems from around the world. This may be one of the people that came with depression and a spirit of suicide for deliverance. If he was delivered here, perhaps he lost his deliverance. He may have gone back to his past life.
Because you come here for prayer does not mean you are a friend of Jesus. It is only when you maintain your relationship with Him – that makes you a friend.
You religious people – stop blaspheming. We are Christians; we are not exchanging issues with you. We pray all spirits of religion in your life be delivered, be removed, in Jesus’ name!
In John 10:10, the Bible says that satan came to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus came to give life and life in abundance. That is our mission – to give life in abundance, in Jesus’ name.
Kenyans, remember that this is not the first time false rumours have been spread concerning me in your nation. Several rumours were spread online previously that I had prophesied Al-Shabaab terrorists would kidnap and kill Kenya’s President. Why this hatred for me in Kenya? This is a religious spirit.
Take note – one may claim to be a Christian yet be religious. People with a religious spirit have no independent mind – they take everything they hear, see and read without finding out the truth. We are all brought up from a religious background and delivered to become Christians. Yet many claim to be Christians who are still not properly delivered. Therefore, we should examine everything in the light of God’s Word. This is what the Bible means by find out the truth and the truth shall set you free (John 8:32).
I want to believe the religious people are behind this story. I have never been to Kenya before. This will not stop me from one day coming to Kenya – at God’s appointed time.
