Terror in Paris: Gunmen storm French magazine office, kill 12 staff

Two masked men (pictured) brandishing Kalashnikovs stormed the headquarters of French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, this afternoon and opened fire on staff, killing 12 people and wounding 10, including reporters, administrative staff and two police police officers.

According to local media reports, some witnesses claimed that the attackers stalked the building for a few minutes, asking for people that work at the magazine by name before opening fire, and killing the mag's editor and cartoonist while they were having their editorial meeting.

The attack is supposedly in revenge for the magazine's mockery of the Holy Prophet Mohammed in a cartoon. A journalist with Europe1 News said several men in black were heard shouting 'the Prophet has been avenged', after the mass shooting. Police chased the attacker but the men managed to escape in a car they hijacked. The attackers are still on the loose. See photos after the cut...

Buhari represents darkness while GEJ represents light - FFK

Spokesperson of the PDP presidential campaign organisation Femi Fani-Kayode has described APC's presidential flag bearer as a rep of darkness while President Jonathan represents light. According to him, General Buhari's records are shameful and disastrous. FFK said this while addressing newsmen at the PDP campaign headquarters in Abuja today January 7th
“We wish to inform you that it is our intention to run a clean campaign that is based on facts, figures and issues. We shall not indulge in the type of cheap propaganda, mud-slinging and deceit that the APC and their Presidential candidate have been indulging in over the last few weeks and months but it is our full intention to expose General Muhammadu Buhari for what he really is, what he stands for and the great danger that his candidacy portends for the unity of the Nigerian state and the peace and well-being of the Nigerian people.
More importantly, we shall let the world know about the sterling performance of our candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, over the last four years and we shall make a strong case and appeal to the Nigerian people to grant him the privilege and opportunity to serve a second term. We believe that we have reached a crossroads in our nation’s history and that the forthcoming Presidential Election is a battle for the very soul and destiny of Nigeria. We believe that it is a struggle between light and darkness. We believe that General Buhari represents the darkness and that President Jonathan represents the light. We believe that General Buhari represents a return to an ugly past which is best forgotten while President Jonathan represents our hope for a greater and better future. We believe that the APC, on which platform General Buhari is contesting the presidential election, represents everything that is unholy and unwholesome in our society and that the PDP represents all that is decent and good. “We believe that the much-vaunted ‘change’ campaign of General Buhari represents nothing but a change from good to evil. If you want a positive change, you cannot expect to get it from a man like General Buhari whose democratic credentials are questionable and whose record in public office is shameful and disastrous. Most people do not remember the atrocities that he committed when he was in power and it is our intention to document them and remind the Nigerian people about them.
Most people have chosen to ignore the number of things that General Buhari has said and the number of things that he has done over the last few months and years that have brought carnage, division and strife in our society and that prove that he is not the sort of person that can be trusted with power. It is our intention to bring those things to the attention of the Nigerian people so that they can make an informed choice. “We do not believe that Nigeria ought to be run by a man that is not capable of tolerating dissent or by a political party like the APC that has no sense of remorse, restraint or decency and that is not capable of accepting a plurality of views. We believe that President Goodluck Jonathan has earned the right for a second term and, in the next few weeks, we shall make a humble appeal to the Nigerian people to vote for him massively in the February 14 Presidential Election. By the grace and power of God, we shall prevail.” he said

Obasanjo denies making this derogatory remark about FFK

Just got this press statement below. Obasanjo says he didn't make the derogatory remark above about FFK
Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has refuted reports claiming he abused his former Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, contrary to a report presently circulating on numerous online platforms. Obasanjo, while reacting to the said report which went viral on social media today, said the statement credited to him, was figment of someone's imagination who might be bitter about Fani-Kayode's recent assignment.
The Ota, Ogun State-based former number one citizen, under whom Chief Fani-Kayode served as Minister of Culture and Tourism, and later Minister of Aviation, denied the reports, affirming that despite their different political affiliations in the run-up to the February 2015 general elections, he shares special relationship with the Chief Fani-Kayode, who has been appointed as Director, Media and Publicity of Goodluck Jonathan Re-election Campaign Committee. Chief Obasanjo reiterated the father-son relationship between him and Fani-Kayode, who has pitched his tent with President Jonathan of whom his former boss, Obasanjo has been critical. Signed

Court of Appeal Quashes Stealing Case Against Former MD of Intercontinental Bank, Dr. Erastus Akingbola

Erastus-AkingbolaYNaija
In a latest report by PM News, a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has quashed the 22-count charge brought against the former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Dr. Erastus Akingbola by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC had alleged that Akingbola stole N47.5 billion belonging to the bank.

Ruling on Akingbola’s application on jurisdiction, the court presided over by Justice Amina Augie held that the High Court of Lagos State presided over by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit filed against him by the commission
Justice Augie said it amounted to miscarriage of justice for the lower court to have dismissed Akingbola’s application challenging its jurisdiction on the matter.
“The appeal is meritorious and allowed,” she declared.
“I am convinced that the lower court refused to align itself with the decision of this court in Nwosu’s case,” she further held.
Akingbola and his co-defendant, Bayo Dada, had filed two separate applications challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the 22-count charge filed against them by the EFCC.
But, the lower court, in its ruling on 2 May, 2014 dismissed their applications.
Justice Lawal-Akapo had then held that the charges preferred against the defendants were within its competence and jurisdiction to determine.
Dissatisfied with the ruling of the high court, Akingbola and Dada approached the Appeal Court, praying that the trial court’s decision be set aside.
Delievering the judgement, Justice Augie declared that the lower court fell into serious error by not abiding by the decision on Nwosu’s case adding, “it is most unfair and is an injustice”.
According to her, the lower court has no option than to follow the decision of the higher court on Nwosu’s case.
“The point must be made that the decision of this court in Nwosu’s case was based on proof of evidence.”
The judge noted that all the charges against the defendants arose out of capital market transactions.
“Only federal high court is conferred with the exclusive jurisdiction to try cases of capital market transaction,” she stressed.
The appellate court held that the lower court owes it a duty to compare and contrast the documents cited by parties.
“It is its duty to examine materials brought before him. It is the role of the judge to do justice in adjudicating all the cases brought before him.
“One sided justice would amount to injustice and favouring one side.
“The proof of evidence was there but the trial judge at the lower court accused the defendants of not furnishing him with the documents.
“He has failed in his duty.”
Justice Augie further held that the appeal filed by the defendants has nothing to do with evidence, noting that the lower court failed to go through argument canvassed before it assumed jurisdiction on the matter.
She emphasised that the issue of jurisdiction should not have been toyed with by the lower court.
“I agree with the appellant that the lower court ought to have gone through the proof of evidence.
“There is no way a charge of stealing can stand without going through the proof of evidence,” she declared.

You would think because they are celebs, they would behave themselves always but…they are also just human like the guy next door – So, that’s how Usher got into a fight, inside Miami’s hotspot E11even on New Year’s eve and you won’t believe why:

According to MTO:
Usher was in VIP with his girlfriend, and some drunk white guy was screaming disrespectful things towards Usher, trying to get his attention. When that didn’t work, he started saying nasty things about his [fiancee Grace]. The guy called her ugly. To Usher’s credit, he didn’t act like a b*tch. He broke through security and started fighting the guy. Usher f*cked him up. It was like a four piece – Usher must be a boxer or something because the punches were very fast. I don’t know how Usher’s eye got like that because I didn’t see White dude even tough Usher.
