Football icon Pele released from hospital after surgery

Description

Pele
Brazilian football legend Pele was released from hospital Saturday following prostate surgery, doctors said, after his latest health scare.
Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo said the 74-year-old was discharged at 6:30 pm (2130 GMT). He was treated at the same facility last year for a severe urinary tract infection.
The only player to win three World Cup titles underwent four days of a surgical procedure known as a transurethral resection of the prostate, which is performed for enlargement of the prostate that causes difficulty urinating.
Media reports said the surgery for an enlarged prostate — a common condition in aging men — was aimed at preventing a repeat of the urinary infection that sent Pele to the hospital last year.
The global sports icon has suffered a number of health crises in recent months.
He underwent surgery for kidney stones in November, and then came down with an infection that required treatment in a hospital intensive care unit for several days.
His one remaining kidney — the other was removed following a rib injury during his playing days — stopped working and had to be treated with dialysis.
He was also operated on the femur in November 2012.
Pele was named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee in 1999.
The athlete, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time.

Man Chains Little Girls to his Bed and Rapes Them Severally

chain
This is so weird and some folks are really sick – See, how do you explain that a man kidnapped and sexually abused two little sisters, chained them and abused them sexually….

According to Daily Mail UK:
Stephen M. Howells II, 39, and his former girlfriend Nicole Vaisey lured the two girls, aged 6 and 12, away from their family’s vegetable stand in Oswegatchie last August, asking if they wanted to pet a puppy in the couple’s car, police said.
The 12-year-old girl got suspicious on the way to the car and began screaming, but Howells pushed the girls inside and drove them to the couple’s home where, authorities say, they were handcuffed for 24 hours.
Father-of-three Stephen M. Howells II, 39, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and sexually abusing two Amish sisters, aged 6 and 11, who he chained to his bed, according to police
Between December 2012 and August 2013, Howells sedated his victims with drugs and then sexually abused them while filming the whole thing, Hartunian said.
In his plea, Howells claimed he conspired with Vaisey to abduct the children and make child pornography, alleging that they sometimes switched roles while doing so.
Howells has also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to produce child pornography, producing child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Lord have mercy – wonder what folks nowadays are turning into!!!

I Was Ready to Die for Nigeria - President Goodluck Jonathan

Apart from getting scholarships in school, President Jonathan became a deputy governor, governor, vice president and president by the grace of God. And today at the Anglican church thanksgiving, he said he was ready to pay the supreme price for Nigeria with all the benefits he has derived from the country right from his school days.

He said:
“When I look at the whole picture of my life up to when I became the president of this country, I say that if soldiers and police officers that have not received 0. 5 percent of the benefits that I have received from the state can lay their lives for this country, I should do anything in the interest of Nigeria including paying the supreme price.
As long as live, I will continue to do my best for the state because the state has helped
me as a person. I have to thank Nigerians especially my state for giving me the opportunity to serve as deputy governor and the whole country gave me the opportunity to serve as Vice President and then president, first was to complete the tenure of the late president and later serve as president from which I am exiting now as a very happy and fulfilled man.
I believe there are reasons for everything. Some hard decisions have their own cost, no doubt about that. That I have ran the government this way that stabilized certain things, the electoral process and other things that brought stability into this country. They were very costly decisions which I myself must be ready to pay for.
Some people come to me and say this or that person is he not your friend that benefited. Is it not your government that this person benefited from? But this is what the person is saying. But I used to say worse statements will come. If you take certain decisions, you should know that those close to you will even abandon you at some point. And I tell them that more of my so-called friends will disappear.”

'We're Naked, Chained; Starved of food & Water' - Nigerian Soldiers on Deathrow Cry Out

According to SaharaReporters, they have learnt of an alleged covert plan to ‘kill’ a group of soldiers who were arrested late last year on charges of mutiny and attempted murder.

The soldiers who have been held since September  last year managed to reach out to the outside world via text messages, using the opportunity to reveal the conditions they are being held in. The initial message they sent to SR read:
“Greetings sir, we are the 12 soldiers sentenced to death \others detained at CIC Apapa, Lagos. We are to inform you that following our denial of access to our families, councils & even access to fund [sic] to feed our families\pay our legal fees, that as you know, we
had been concealing our cell phone to help us hear from counsels.
The phone was collected on 6\5\15, in view of this, we have not been fed, We are on hand-cuff & leg chain, we are kept naked [sic] & deprived of even drinking water. As it stands now sir, our lives  are at stake. We, therefore, plead with due respect that you intervene”.
SR reporter followed up trying to call the number but met with no success. Only for after a while, one of the accused reached their reporter again, this time in a voice call with a frantic message.
“They are trying to kill us. They want to kill us” the voice said.
He reportedly went on to inform SR that the authorities have noticed that they have access to a cell phone and have therefore resorted to using starving techniques as a form of punishment. He said they had not been fed nor given any water for about five days.

Last year the story broke of some 12 soldiers who were reined in by the military authorities for allegedly refusing to confront Boko Haram militants and firing at their commanding officer in the northeastern city of Maiduguri in May. The soldiers were reportedly angry after a convoy was ambushed on a road frequently targeted by Islamist Boko Haram militants and decided to protest to the authorities who they blamed for underequipped and underpaying them.

They were subsequently charged with mutiny and attempted murder and sentenced to death.

Sahara Reporters say attempts by them to glean more information from the phone conversation were cut short as the phone abruptly went dead. It is believed they are under strict guard and thus had to hang up to avoid being seen by the authorities. They, however, managed to sneak out another text message.
“Is not OK, they want to kill us with bitting [sic] starvation since 4 days we have not eating [sic] any food pls help us we are the 12 soldiers they sentenced last year.”
SR continues that they tried to reach the military high command for comment but at the time of going to press, they had not been able to make contact.

Zamfara Assembly investigates majority leader’s alleged fight with driver over woman

Zamfara House of Assembly on Friday directed its Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate the fight between its majority leader and the governor’s chief driver over a woman. This followed a “call to order’’ letter by the state APC, Alhaji Lawali Kaura, and read on the floor of the house under “matters of urgent public importance”.

The Clerk of the house, Alhaji Isa Bayero, read the letter which urged the lawmakers to investigate the Monday, May 4 brawl to save the state and the party from embarrassment.

The Speaker, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, directed committee to call on all parties involved, including the woman, security agents, eyewitnesses and other relevant bodies. Rikiji warned that any invitee who failed to appear before the committee, headed by the Chief Whip, Alhaji Abdulmumini Isa, would be seen and treated as a law breaker. The committee is expected to submit its report on June 27.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the majority leader, Alhaji Salisu Musa (Tsafe North) was involved in an open fight with the governor’s chief driver, Idris Garba. The woman operates a restaurant in Gusau,

The majority leader had told newsmen that he had “business’’ with the lady for some time now. Musa said that during the fight, the driver tried to bite off his fingers but for the timely intervention of the police. NAN also reports that the matter had generated mixed feelings among people of the state.

Lol. Man steals jewelry at gunpoint but brings it back because it's fake

A Miami man, Daniel Sion Palmer, 26, man was recently arrested after authorities say he robbed a man at gunpoint, took off running and returned moments later to complain that the stolen goods were fake.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. when Palmer allegedly pointed a gun at a man from New York, grabbed his gold chain and then took off.
Police say Palmer apparently was not satisfied with his freshly stolen jewelry, and so he approached the victim again a block away, just so he could tell him the jewelry was fake.

“That was a brazen move and because of that he was able to be apprehended,” Det. Ernesto Rodriguez said.

The victim was able to flag police down and point out Palmer, who was now driving a Mercedes. Investigators say he sped disregarding the police officers who had turned on their lights and sirens, he was eventually apprehended and arrested.

He has since been charged with armed robbery, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and possession of a suspended license, police said.

Michael Schumacher's wife sells off his $40m private jet and holiday mansion as 'he won't use them again'

Michael Schumacher was left disabled after a ski accident in December 2013 that caused major brain injuries which doctors say he will never fully recover from. According to new reports, Schumacher's wife Corina has sold his $40million private jet and a holiday mansion in Norway after accepting the formula legend won't be able to use them again. Insiders say his rehabilitation is not progressing.

Michael was worth over $600m before the devastating accident left him unable to function. He still can't speak and is immobile. Corina, who manages his empire, is reportedly also planning to sell another family home in France, where Michael and his children were staying before the ski accident.

The family currently lives in their mansion in Switzerland which has been specially adapted for the 47 year Formula 1 legend with a team of doctors, nurses and technicians working around the clock.

WHO warns that Ebola may be transmitted sexually

The World Health Organisation has issued an interim advice on the possibility of Ebola Virus of being sexually transmitted.

The WHO had directed all Ebola survivors and their sexual partners to receive counselling to guard against possible transmission of the disease.

This is contained in a statement made available by WHO to newsmen in Lagos on Saturday.

It indicated that the sexual transmission of the Ebola Virus had yet to be established.

WHO said, “The sexual transmission of the Ebola Virus from males to females is a strong possibility, but has not yet been proven; less probable, but theoretically possible.

“Studies have shown that Ebola virus can be isolated from semen up to 82 days after symptom onset.

“A recent case investigation identified genetic material (RNA) from the virus by nucleic acid amplification tests (such as RT-PCR) 199 days after symptom onset.

“This is well beyond the period of virus detecting ability in the blood of survivors and long after recovery from illness.

“The detection of virus genetic material many months after symptom onset is assumed to reflect the continuing, or at least very recent, presence of live and potentially transmissible Ebola virus.”

More surveillance data and research are needed on the risks of sexual transmission and particularly on the prevalence of viable and transmissible virus in semen over time, WHO said.

WHO recommends that, in the interim, all Ebola survivors and their sexual partners should receive counselling.

It added that this is to ensure safe sexual practices until their semen has twice tested negative; and survivors should be provided with condoms.

“Ebola survivors and their sexual partners should either abstain from all types of sex or observe safe sex through correct and consistent condom use until their semen has twice tested negative.

“Having tested negative, survivors can safely resume normal sexual practices without fear of Ebola virus transmission,” the statement added.

Dangote Cannot Afford to Buy Arsenal Football Club - Etcetera

You have sold some shares and you’ve got some money to spend. Now you want the ultimate: Your own football club. Hold on there, are you sure?
Football clubs are a nightmare to run. In fact, almost two-thirds of premiership clubs have been in receivership at some point. Remember Portsmouth FC ploughed through four owners some seasons back and landed itself a debt of £60m and relegation in the Championship. Think of Leeds United’s tragicomic collapse; the balls-up at Cambridge United; Rotherham going into receivership in 2006 and 2008; Southampton’s sorry saga. And, of course, Crawley Town getting a winding up order years back. So, what do we know?
Don’t buy a football club for the glory. So, before Dangote aspires to join Abrahamovic,
Glazers and Al Mansours, he should make sure he knows his stuff.
But does Dangote know how much these football clubs really cost?
It is often mistaken that these clubs go for a quid. For instance, Swansea City was bought by investors for £100, and sold four years later for a £1. But beware: underneath those figures lies a pile of debt.

Does Dangote have the cash, can he do an Abramovich?
No, he can’t. New UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations already in place, require clubs to balance their income and expenses. Dangote cannot operate under such rules. The premiership is too organised and transparent for any businessman to easily manipulate. The wage structure of footballers is too large for a businessman like Dangote to take on.
Let us forget that those goons at Forbes have told us that Dangote is Africa’s richest man. As it stands, he cannot afford the outright purchase of a big football club like Arsenal. It is as simple as that. He will go broke. It is a possibility if we are talking about a club in the coast of West Africa. Dangote has most of his wealth in shares and physical assets and the football business requires liquid cash to sustain.
Have we all forgotten that the same Dangote got a 3G licence and sold it to Etisalat? He is a very smart businessman who knows how to pick his areas of investments.
Can he get Bank backing?
Unlikely! No serious private equity firm would get involved with a football club. They are not proper businesses. Too much politics, too many egos. And there’s no proper exit route – the history of football clubs on the stock market is chequered, to say the least. They are rich men’s toys, great for entertaining your mates, and that’s about it. I don’t think Dangote can afford such an expensive toy.
A lot of people think it is relatively easy to make a million pounds by being the owner of a football club. That all you have to do is put in that first two million pounds. But these people should also know that since the English Premier League was formed in 1992, football finances have dried up to the extent that making a million pound profit is no longer a walk in the park.
It is also the case that buying a football club is unlikely to yield that much of a return. Despite the significant TV and other commercial revenues, football clubs in England’s top flight still struggle to break even. This is ironic, given the goal of setting up the Premier League was to stabilise club finances.
Is Dangote putting his heart over his head?
Yes I think so. Simon Jordan, in his autobiography, tells the story of how owning a football club can go terribly wrong. Jordan amassed a fortune of £75m in the early days of the mobile phone revolution. In 2000, he paid £10m to take control of South London football team Crystal Palace, becoming the youngest football club chairman at the age of 32. He was warned by many not to do it, but having watched the club since his childhood, he could not resist.
Fast-forward 10 years and the club was in administration and Jordan’s personal wealth largely wiped out. It is reported that Roman Abramovich, the Russian owner of Chelsea, has written off more than one billion pounds he ploughed into the club since acquiring it in 2003. Catching him up fast is Sheikh Mansour from Abu Dhabi, who has invested close to one billion pounds in Manchester City since 2008. Can Dangote write off such a huge amount of money?
It is in fact the amount of money he borrows to invest in businesses. But again, I think Dangote is just trying to hype himself. Most of the serious money flowing into football recently has come from the Middle East. The Qatar Investment Authority (the country’s sovereign wealth fund) bought the French Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain in 2011 and has gone about transforming them in the same way Sheikh Mansour has Manchester City. Forget those guys at Forbes, Dangote is not in the same league as these guys.
The Glazer Family bought Manchester United in 2006, recognising the immense value of its global brand as a cash generator and the opportunities to enhance it even further. The cost of buying the club was loaded on to the club itself, with the revenues it generates used to pay the debt and interest that the Glazers undertook to buy the club. Eventually, the hope is that the club will essentially pay for itself leaving its American owners in possession of a multi-billion pound asset but till date, the Glazers are still gnashing their teeth and are still neck deep in debt.
When it was speculated that a Middle East consortium was willing to pay £1.5bn for Arsenal Football Club, it was stated that Stan Kroenke, the American who owns about 63 per cent of the shares in the club, would have made just £400m on his shares. So, given the appalling financial returns, why do people buy football clubs?
Who can buy Arsenal football club?
Anyone can buy Arsenal football club, but that anyone doesn’t include anyone who obtains bank loans to fund a business. Sir John Madejski, chairman of Reading Football Club, describes the ideal football club owner as having deep pockets, mercurial, and not faint-hearted
