28 children die of lead poisoning in Niger state

The Federal Government has confirmed the death of 28 children following a fresh outbreak of lead poisoning in Niger state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the latest incident had brought the number of deaths from lead poisoning in the country to 191, including 139 children. A total of 420 cases were recorded in Zamfara and Niger states, respectively.

Briefing newsmen on the latest development in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health, Mr Fidelis Nwankwo, said that 68 fresh cases of the lead poisoning were recorded in Kawo and Magiro villages of Rafi local government area of the state.
“Sixty eight cases have been recorded as at May 12, 2015, and 28 deaths had occurred giving the case of fertility rate of 43 per cent,” said Nwankwo.
According to him, all the deceased were children below the age of five and comprised 17 females and 11 males. He said the affected children were found to have a high serum lead level between 17 and 22 times higher than the acceptable limits established by the World Health Organisation.

Nwankwo listed the measures to include advocacy meetings with the affected community leaders on the dangers of economic activities involving mining.
“We have commenced non-specific, palliative treatment of the sick children in Kagara hospital.
“We also commenced the process of incident command structure to enhance coordination of the outbreak response.

“Mobilisation of health facilities in Niger and Zamfara states to commence chelation of clinically ill children in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

NAN recalls that the last lead poisoning case was recorded in Zamfara between March and June 2010, which claimed 163 lives, including 111 children. The incident recorded 355 cases

Dear LIB readers; What do you think my company should do?

Putting someone on blast via Dear LIB readers...lol. #sense. Read below...
We have a motion editor (Ademola Abegunde) who works in the editing suites of Koga Entertainment. He has worked there for a while. Early this week, he got his salary and discovered all the members of staff were penalised for not coming to work on a particular day.
He got angry and went to the company’s computer and deleted all the files there including a four-cast movie, The Visit shot with two world most expensive camera, Arri Alexa (The only saving grace for the movie was a backup in the hard drive of another staff). For those in production, they know how difficult it is to have a whole edited body of work; the online TV could not broadcast for several hours yesterday.
We have gone to the police station (attached is a police report), and have put his phone number, 08066205559 out with his picture looking for him. The police are planning to declare him wanted.
I am worried for the young man but most importantly, why do editors behave like this? Recently, I heard that the editor of KICC Church in Lagos deleted all the files he worked on while in the employment of the company as he was resigning. He threw the whole production department of the church into chaos. What should employers of editors do?

Why We Turned Our Backs On President Jonathan

When President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died on 5 may 2010 and Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan was sworn in on 6 May 2010 as the 14th Head of State of Nigeria, I was extremely pessimistic about his government effectiveness and seriously had doubts that his government would build on the legacy of late President Yar’Adua. As he set the mechanism of his government in motion, so many unpleasant events that unfolded proved me right.

President Jonathan is naturally a gentle man with a very good heart; a man who loves children; a man who cares about the well being of people; a man who has the ability to stand firm against insurmountable situations; a man who is warm-hearted; a man who has the ability to invigorate every ministry in the Nigerian Government and reposition Nigeria on the move-ahead track; a man who has the ability to make positive and productive invincible choices for Nigeria. And above all, a man who is God fearing.

But Jonathan appears to be bereft of all these qualities because of so many wrong choices made and some of those in his government including his wife Patience and those within his own family turned him into a mere inert resource for their diabolical schemes.

Although President Jonathan has made notable impact by: Promotion and practice of relatively stable democracy by creating an enabling environment where people from diverse opinions can be accommodated; liberalization of the press and guaranteeing the freedom of speech; Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YOUWIN); establishing nine federal universities across the Country; introducing the Almajiri system of education in the academically disadvantaged Northern parts of the country; opening up of Nigeria to the global business; opening up of Nigeria to the global business community and becoming Africa’s number one destination of foreign investors.

In the first six month of 2014 a total of US$9.70 billion or N1.51 trillion flowed into the national economy as foreign direct investments (FDI); making proceeds from Nigeria’s non-on exports to rise to $2.3Billion by the end of 2013, up from $2.3 Billion in 2010; remodeling, beautification and standardization of airports across the Country; arresting the outbreak of the deadly and highly contagious Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in record time; transforming the agricultural sector making Nigeria to reduce its food imports over 40% as of 2013, moving the country closer to self sufficiency in Agriculture; making Nigeria the world’s largest producer of Cassava with an output of over 45Million metric tons in 2014 according to the food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO); improvement in Economic indices - in October 2011 international Ratings agency, Fitch Rating revised Nigeria’s Outlook upwards from Negative to Stable among other achievements but his government has been marred and over shadowed by the high level of corruption and insecurity which have led to gross incompetence and failure of his government since his achievements are not commensurate to the resources claimed to have been used.

The issue of corruption has placed Nigeria in a very tight situation because corruption leads to bad governance, insecurity, high rate of unemployment, poor infrastructure, lack of quality education, poor salaries among others.

When Jonathan was sworn in on 6 May 2010 as the President of Nigeria, he cited anti-corruption, power and electoral reforms as focuses of his administration. But his administration has rather promoted corruption than curbed it. The basic problem Jonathan has is corruption which has neutralized his achievements and made most Nigerians to have ambivalent feelings toward his Transformation Agenda.

The Malabu Oil deal corruption is one of the issues that has questioned Jonathan’s anti-corruption competency. According to The Economist of 15 June 2013, In 2011 Goodluck Jonathan’s government facilitated the transfer of payment of $1.1Billion to a fake company set up by a controversial former Petroleum Minister under Sani Abasha’s corrupt regime, Dan Etete. The fake company, Malabu Oil and Gas was set up in 1998 by Etete using a false identity so as to award himself a lucrative Oil block, OPL245, for which he paid only $2million of the $20million legally required by the State. At the time of Jonathan’s government helping to facilitate the transfer of payment from shell and Eni to the fake company, Etete was already a convicted felon of money laundering in France. The Economist further says that only $800million out of the $1.1billon meant for Malabu Oil and Gas was even remitted by the Nigerian government.

The Nigerian Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke, who signed the documents involved in facilitating the payments, denied the rest was shared by public officials.

The transfer to convicted Felon, Etete, only came to public light when a Russian lawyer that claimed to have helped Malabu negotiate a deal with the Jonathan’s government sued in New York for a $66Million unpaid commission. Both Shell and Eni as of September 2014 were under investigation for corruption by the UK and Italian authorities for the incidence.

The way which Jonathan handled the corruption act of the erstwhile Minister of Aviation Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah who bought 2 BMW bullet proof cars at the rate of N255miillion upset many Nigerians.

According to Punch, February 27, 2013, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina was accused of spending up to N1billion to carry out biometric verification for retirees, both in Nigeria and abroad. On the whole, Maina allegedly misappropriated about N195billion, according to the Senate Pension Probe Committee headed by Aloysius Etuk and Kabiru Gaya. This resulted in extreme difficulties in getting money to pay thousands of pensioners their due.

Lamido sanusi was suspended by Jonathan and later replaced as the Central Bank Governor for leaking information that about $20billion of petrodollars were missing from the coffers of Nigeria. And this act made most Nigerians to lost faith in Jonathan’s government in effectively fighting corruption.

Premium Times of March 24, 2014 reports that the Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke was accused by Federal lawmakers of squandering N10billion to charter and maintain private jet for her personal use. She was accused of spending about N130Million Naira monthly to maintain the aircraft, solely for her personal needs and those of her immediate family.

Samuel Adejare, the lawmaker who raised the matter made it explicitly clear that there was irrefutable evidence showing that the financing for the Challenger 850 aircraft was drawn from government funds.

According to Mr. Adejare, the estimated N10billion would be “a tip of the iceberg” as further investigation would show the minister spent far higher.

As a result of many cases of high level of corruption in the Jonathan government, the United States Government in 2013 indicted the President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal Government of massive and widespread corruption.

According to the United States Department of State, government officials and agencies frequently engage in corrupt practices with impunity.

The former United States’ Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton in a public interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts, lambasted Nigerian government saying: “They have squandered their oil wealth, they have allowed corruption to fester and now they are losing control of parts of their territory because they wouldn’t make hard choices”. According to her, President Goodluck Jonathan led government is indirectly aiding corruption to worsen the nation’s many problems.

It is evident that high level of corruption flows in Jonathan government like moving water. This is where Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) is better than President Jonathan. Although Buhari also is not free from corruption since no human being is corrupt-free. But Buhari has been known to have the will to fight corruption and reduce its negative impact and his level of corruption can never be equated with Jonathan since he is far better than Jonathan in this regard.

Most Nigerians turned their backs on President Jonathan and voted against him because his government failed to live up to the expectations of Nigerians.

Buhari should lear
n great lesions from Jonathan’s mistake and should never allow all these happen in his government. If Buhari must succeed as a good leader, he must put the interests of Nigerians above that of himself, his family, his party and his friends.

Senate President: Bukola Saraki Is Winning, See His Strategy

It looks like Senator Bukola Saraki is still a master strategist. George Akume was meeting with leaders who are not members of the Senate, Saraki is meeting the right men, Senators who will vote for him.

To this end, PDP Governors-elect on Tuesday night attended a serious meeting held by some of their APC counterparts rooting for the emergence Saraki as Senate President ahead of Akume and Lawan.

The meeting which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja had 65 senators-elect in attendance.

A source who attended the meeting listed Godswill Akpabio, Theodore Orji and Sam Egwu among the PDP senators-elect that were in attendance.

Our source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said some of the PDP senators-elect were backing Saraki because it appeared that the APC leaders were in support of Ahmad Lawan.

The source said, “For now, the PDP has not endorsed any candidate but some of us are in support of Saraki because the APC leaders appear to be supporting Lawan.”

A senator-elect from Kogi State, Dino Melaye, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday that some PDP senators-elect attended the meeting by Saraki supporters.

Melaye said that the PDP and the APC senators had already confirmed their endorsement of Saraki.

According to him, the meeting was attended by many PDP and APC Senators, including Sabo Nakudu, Mohammed Gobil, Ali Ndume, Danjuma Goje, Binta Garba, Ubah, Shehu Sani and Aliyu Wamakko,

He said, “The meeting was a mixture of PDP and APC senators. Forty APC and 25 PDP senators were in attendance. We resolved that we have to produce a senator that is made by senators. Eighty per cent of senators from Lawan’s North-East attended the meeting and endorsed Saraki.”

Besides Saraki (North-Central) and Lawan (North-East), George Akume (Benue) is also contesting the senate presidency.

But APC has yet to zone the position and others, including the speakership of the House of Reps.

Although it was gathered that some members of the APC caucus in the North-West, who were earlier reported to have endorsed Lawan had started supporting Saraki.

Father Beat His 4year old Daughter to Death and the Reason Will Shock You

Meet the ‘demonic’ single father who beat his four-year-old daughter to death just three months after being granted custody of her, so he could collect more money…

According to Dailymail UK;
Carl Wheatley, 31, admitted killing Alexa-Marie Quinn in March last year after the local authority granted him custody from foster parents but denied it was murder.
But a jury dismissed his plea to manslaughter by reasons of diminished responsibility and found the supermarket worker guilty of murder.
Wheatley joked with prison officers just before the verdict was read out and made no reaction when the jury foreman said ‘guilty’.
St Albans Crown Court in Hertfordshire heard how he had bragged to a colleague that he would get a two-bedroom house and £1,700 in benefits if he got custody of his daughter.
He convinced social workers that he could look after her but instead of caring for the youngster the father-of-two beat her repeatedly and went to considerable lengths to cover it up.
Prosecutor Christopher Donnellan QC said: ‘In the weeks before she died when he hit her he hit her hard and he hit her more and more.
‘He went to considerable lengths to avoid Alexa-Marie being seen by anyone.
‘He knew at the time what he was doing and that he was causing her harm.’
Beaten: It was the 66th bruise on Alexa-Marie’s body which caused her death, a post mortem revealed

He added: ‘He lost his temper with her, she was just four-and-a-half years old.
‘This wasn’t just a single blow, this was a sustained period of hard beating of her.’
Alexa-Marie was found dead at her home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, on March 12 last year.
Wheatley claimed he called 999 two minutes after Alexa-Marie stopped breathing but the court heard that she could have been dead for hours.
He sobbed in the dock as the first 999 call he made to emergency services was played in court.
He told the operator: ‘I’ve had her for a few months, I got a bit frustrated with her and I harmed the poor child.’
Professor Rupert Risdon, who carried out the post mortem, said he had never seen injuries like those suffered by the four-year-old.
He said he found 65 separate bruise marks all over her, but it was the 66th bruise which had caused her death.
This was described in court as one massive bruise that stretched from her abdomen down her thighs and buttocks to her lower leg.
Even the devil isn’t this cruel or what do you think???

Has Lindsay Lohan Turned to Islam???

lindsay
Lindsay Lohan, who has been ordered to carry out her community service by a judge, was spotted carrying a copy of the Koran after the first day in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old actress – who was raised as a Catholic – held a hard copy of the Muslim holy book in her arm as she finished a day of office work at a children’s center – She has also revealed that she has embarked on an ’emotional detox’, giving up alcohol and dating,
Lohan, who is of Italian and Irish descent, last year described herself as a ‘very spiritual person’ in a docu-series with Oprah Winfrey – She said:
‘I’m a very spiritual person and I’ve become more spiritual as time has gone on,’ she told the talk show host.
‘I’m really in touch, whether it’s prayer or meditation… there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I’ve been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people.’
Lindsay was in Brooklyn to start her court-ordered community service at the Duffield Children’s Center in the Fort Greene neighborhood, where she worked in April 2014 while filming a docu-series with Oprah.
What do you think???
