NFL player Shembo faces animal cruelty charge after girlfriend's dog dies

Police have charged Atlanta Falcons linebacker Prince Shembo 23, with aggravated animal cruelty after his girlfriend's dog died from blunt force trauma.

Gwinnett County police said in a news release that they obtained a warrant Friday for the NFL player's arrest. Police say Shembo's girlfriend called police on April 19 and said she had taken her Yorkie, Dior, to Shembo's apartment on April 15. At some point, she left the dog alone with Shembo and when she later found the dog, he was unresponsive.

She took the dog to an animal hospital, where he died a short time later. Shembo told her the next day he had kicked the dog.

Shebo’s now-former girlfriend, model Denicia Williams, contacted police four days after the Yorkie’s April 15 death. According to the incident report, she had confronted Shembo and told him she’d been praying about what happened to her dog.

“What if I told you I kicked your dog?” Shembo asked, according to Williams.

Williams said she then asked if it had only been once. Shembo reportedly said no.

Williams stated that she told the suspect that she could not see him anymore,” the report said, “and Shembo stated that he might leave the country because he knows how much time he would do in prison for animal cruelty.”

Shembo, turned himself last Friday evening after Gwinnett County police charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s Yorkshire terrier, Dior.

He was booked into the Gwinnett County jail around 8:45 p.m. and released on bond about 90 minutes later.

Shembo’s attorney, Jerry Froelich, has maintained that his client was reacting to a bite from the dog and kicked it only once, but the story Shembo’s girlfriend relayed to police suggests otherwise.

Lagos Bad Boys Molest Two Sisters In Bariga

Two sisters, Essiet, 18, and 20-year-old Debby (pseudonyms), have been r*ped by a gang of six men who were said to have accosted them in the Bariga area of Lagos State.

According to Punch, the victims were returning from a hospital in the Oworonsoki area last Thursday when they were attacked by the suspects. It was learnt that while Essiet was deflowered by four men, her elder sister, Debby, was ravished by two of the hoodlums.

When Punch visited the scene of the incident on Ogundero/Dahomey streets on Wednesday, the people in the area said they were not aware. Some of those who spoke said they were not living in the area, but only ran their trade on the streets.
However, it was learnt from a source that the matter was reported at the Bariga Police Station and two of the suspects had been arrested.

Punch spoke with Essiet who described her experience as a nightmare.

She said, “It happened on May 21 around 11pm. My sister and I went to give food to a family member who had just given birth to a baby in Oworonsoki. We were returning in the night when we saw the men. They had guns, cutlasses and other weapons.

“They waylaid us and said if we shouted they would kill us. They took us to a spot around Dahomey junction and r*ped us.”

The elder sister, Debby, described the incident as painful. She said she wanted the suspects punished and their accomplices, who were still at large, arrested.

She said, “Two of them r*ped me, while four r*ped my sister. The third man wanted to r*pe me when a car approached. They all took to their heels. It was a painful experience. I have taken different medications and visited the hospital as well.”

A day after the act, one of the victims, while passing through te area, spotted one of the suspects.  She was said to have reported the matter to the police, who arrested the suspect.

Debby said, “We were able to recognise him because when they were r*ping us, he took my phone and also shouted at me to stop looking at him. We saw his face clearly."

But the suspects - Mayowa Adeniji (21), and Riliwan Oladapo (25) - said they knew nothing about it.

Adeniji, who claimed to be an artiste, said he was at a club in the Gbagada area when the police arrested him and Oladapo.

He said, “I am an artiste by profession and my stage name is D. Dot. I have released several albums that are being aired on radio stations. I have been doing music for the past 11 years and I have done collaborations with many artistes in this country.

“Though I am a street guy, I know what I am doing. On the day the police came to arrest me, I was having fun with my back-up artiste and there were five girls at my beck and call.

“I didn’t know why they came to arrest me until I got to the station and saw these small girls saying we r*ped them. I have never met them in my life and I don’t know what they are talking about.”

Who do we believe now? Could it be that the guy is just denying or the girl made a mistake? *Sigh*

Buhari Set To Name Chief Of Staff, Secretary To Government

The shape and faces to the Muhammadu Buhari administration will begin to unfold. Among those to be named are the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF and personal staff of the president and the vice-president.

“The announcements will be made today baring a last minute change of decision,” a source privy to the development said last night.

He added that the president’s trip to Niger and Chad may be the only factors that may delay the announcement. Meanwhile, a senior associate of the president traced the delay in the announcement of senior aides to the delay in the transmission of the handover notes by the Jonathan officials to the transition team constituted by Buhari ahead of his inauguration.

“All we have been doing since Friday is poring over these notes. This is because you need to know the position of things before you delegate the appropriate personnel to any establishment of government,” a source privy to the ongoing developments told Vanguard

Sources close to the President and the ruling APC disclosed that the president would make known the senior officials of his government soon. Besides the Chief of Staff and SGF, other officials to be named may include the Special Adviser to the National Assembly, Political Adviser among senior aides of the president.

The delay in the announcement of senior officials of the new administration, is due to the delay by the former officials of Goodluck Jonathan administration in forwarding their handover notes.

Woman vanishes in Atlanta Airport, misses connecting flight

A woman taking a connecting flight through Atlanta simply disappeared at the world's busiest airport. Anna Giannini has been missing since Sunday May 31st when she flew into Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport but never reached her final destination, Atlanta police said.

Authorities put out a missing person alert Wednesday for the 32-year-old woman. She reportedly landed in Atlanta on a flight from Milan, Italy, at 5:10 p.m. and was expected to take a connecting flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Giannini's sister told police she never showed.

"We are not sure if she got on another flight or how she left the airport," Atlanta police spokesman Ralph Woolfolk said.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport had more than 96 million passengers pass through its terminals in 2014, making it the world's busiest airport, spokesperson Reese McCranie told the Daily News.

Police describe Giannini as 5-foot-5, 145 pounds with brown eyes and hair.

Atlanta's bustling airport made news last week when passengers were panicked by an alarming sight.

A Georgia man walked into Hartsfield–Jackson Airport with his wife, daughter and, around his neck, a fully loaded AR-15 rifle, which was legal under state law.

4 family members accused of beating pregnant teen to kill baby

Authorities in Dallas arrested four family members Tuesday accused in the brutal beating of a 14 year old girl who was reportedly impregnated by another family member.

Police said the attack occurred in 2013, but the alleged victim, who police say was raped by a family member a year earlier, was embarrassed to come forward. She was eventually convinced to go to law enforcement on May 22, 2015 by a woman who said she witnessed part of the attack.

The paper, citing police, reported that the girl, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the alleged attack in 2013, delivered the baby stillborn and the family tried to cover up the birth by burning the body on a grill at the Pleasant Grove home.

Police told the paper that the family was concerned the Child Protective Services would remove the children from the home if they learned about the pregnancy.

The paper identified the suspects as Cedric Jones, 27, Sharon Jones, 45, Cecila McDonald, 25, and Lonnell McDonald, 27. A fifth relative was arrested for the alleged sexual assault.

Their relationship with the teen, who was not clear. They were arrested on Tuesday on charges of engaging in organized criminal activity, a felony.
Police said that Sharon Jones provided the teen with multiple doses of Plan B contraception pills. The pills, however, did not work.

Police said the girl was pinned down by Cecila McDonald while Lonnell McDonald allegedly “repeatedly bounced up and down” as he sat on the girl. The alleged assault lasted for six hours, the report said.

The baby was stillborn. The girl was reportedly given iron pills by the family over her blood loss and the baby’s body was not recovered.

Bond for each suspect was set at $150,000.

French Tourist killed, wife molested in Ebonyi state

A French couple, Nagnan Denis, 52, and his wife, Nagnan Mee Lavaud Liana, 53, were attacked by unknown hoodlums at a place where they set up a tent in Abomege axis of Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State on Monday June 1st. The man was killed while the woman was molested.

Ebonyi state Commissioner of Police, Maigari Dikko while speaking on the incident, said the victims were tourists who traveled through several countries to get to Nigeria and had traveled through many states and were heading to Calabar, Cross Rivers state when they made a brief stopover in Ebonyi state.

"We got the report yesterday from the DPO of Onicha council about the French nationals, a couple; they were tourists who left their country in December 2014 and arrived Nigeria through Badagry on May 3. They passed through Abeokuta, Benin, Onitsha, Enugu to Ebonyi with their vehicle; they were passing through Ebonyi to Calabar, when the incident happened. They arrived Abomega in the night. According to the widow, her husband had complained that he was tired and since it was late, they decided to pass the night there. They did not report their presence to any law enforcement agents around, but decided to look for a place that has natural shelter and so they went two kilometres off the road to pass the night. They found a quarry site and decided to camp there. According to the wife, when they were at the location, a motorcyclist and another man asked them who they were. Unless investigation proves otherwise, we are thinking that the motorcyclist was the informant to the hoodlums because an hour after he left, three people came into the camp. By then, they had already erected their tent atop the vehicle.”
The commissioner said 1,150 Euros and N13,000 was stolen from the couple during the attack. He also said 32 suspects have been arrested and are being interrogated at the state police headquarters. The French Embassy in Nigeria has been notified and their are plans to fly the victims body to France for burial.
