Pics: Nigerian lady repairs bad street in Lekki using her own money

Media personality and Vlogger Ariyike Akinbobola did something most won't do. She repaired the bad road leading to her home after waiting endlessly for government to carry out repairs. She bought broken blocks and sand and poured it on the road - which is usually flooded after heavy downpour - to make it motorable. What the street looks like before (left) and what it looks like now (right). Well done to her. More photos after the cut...

Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government for its failure to meet the demands of its non-academic staff who have stalled activities at the institution.
Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government for its failure to meet the demands of its non-academic staff who have stalled activities at the institution.
Members of the local branch of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) had downed tools from Friday, 3rd of July following the expiry of a 21-day ultimatum given to the management by the union to pay up owed allowances accumulated over 64 months.
OAU NASU Chairman, Wole Odewumi, was quoted saying that the earned allowances were part of an agreement signed with the Federal Government since 2009 but have remained unpaid.
Odewumi alleged that the OAU management had selectively paid the ‘Responsibility Allowance’ which a few senior staff are entitled to, refusing to pay the ‘hazard allowance’ which affects most NASU members.
“They implemented the one that concerns them, but the one that concerns majority of the workers, they have left unpaid. We held several meetings with them over the matter," Odewumi said.
"Eventually, we gave them an ultimatum which elapsed last Friday.”

But the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, claims that that the Federal Government is the one causing the delay in the payments.
“We issued a circular that as soon as the Federal Government pays the second tranche of that money, we will pay everybody accordingly," Olarewaju said.
The PRO also said the allegations of selective payment of the allowances were not true.
“I am not aware of any ‘selective payment’. If they are talking about ‘responsibility allowance’, members of NASU who head units were also paid that allowance," he said.
“Responsibility allowance means if you head a unit and you are not given an official car, but use your money or car to run errands for the university, you are paid a stipend of about N6,000 or N8000.
"It is not selective.”
He urged the workers to reason with the management.
"We are just appealing to them to give peace a chance and go back to their offices," he added.
"No federal university in this country has paid that money.
"They should just give us some time."
It will be recalled that member of the University of Ibadan (UI) chapter NASU on the 1st of July brought academic activities at the institution to a standstill in a similar fashion.

Kim Kardashian has been referred to a goat in a new report.

The site reports that in an effort to raise awareness on the plight of Walia Ibexes (a type of goat that live 2,500-4,500m up the steep cliffs of the Ethiopian highlands and are the Alpine Ibexes cousins) - now critically endangered - Kim posed in a manner similar to that of the mountain goat, demonstrating her softer, more environmentally conscious side.

the derriere-driven star took to the French countryside, armed with a pair of conscious stilettos, eco-friendly platinum locks and a nude body suit and posed on a mountain of earth, defying the dangers involved with coming into direct contact with dirt.
The animal behaviorists explained to the site that her pose, which mimics the goats, may serve as a trigger for mating, hence saving the declining Walias species. "She has genuine concern for goats," they explained, "she thinks she may have been one in her past life."
Ibexus Aurelius, the Ibexes official spokesperson expressed gratitude to the star and all those involved in the shoot.

A 49-year-old California, USA man, Shelton Eugene Bradley, has been arrested, charged and convicted after killing his 73-year-old mother, Rosie Manuel, and attempting to bake her body parts in an oven, because 'God' told him she was a witch and he had 'divine' instruction to kill all witches.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that the Lancaster born Bradley, pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree murder and agreed to waive any credit for time served in jail since his arrest.
He was arrested a day after his brother called the police to report that he found his mother unresponsive at her Lancaster home. The victim was found dead with her upper torso on an open oven door, with the oven tipped slightly over on top of her.
According to the police investigation, Bradley said that God had told him that his mother was a witch and commanded him to kill and burn all witches. He admitted to strangling the victim, and attempted to place her inside the kitchen oven before fleeing from the scene.
