Photo: Winnie and Mandela's grandson accused of rape granted bail

The 24-year-old grandson of the late former president was on Tuesday 25 August granted bail of R7000 by a Magistrates court in Johannesburg where he is facing a charge of rape and sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl at a restaurant in Greenside, Johannesburg, which occurred on August 7.

According to a news24, the statement by a key witness Goola Singh, a chef at the restaurant where the alleged rape took place who claimed to have seen the grandson of Nelson Mandela and his teenage rape accuser kissing passionately was instrumental to his release on bail. The young man asked the court to set bail between R5 and R10000 because he was unemployed, had two children and is expecting a third one.

“He does not want to be tried as a Mandela but he wants to be tried as a normal person” his lawyer, Marinda Velsman, told the court.

Last week, he admitted in court that he had had sex with the girl but the sex was consensual and he believed she was older than 16. He claimed he sat on a chair while the girl "straddled him during sex".

Marinda Veldsman handed in an affidavit by Goola Singh, employed as a chef at the restaurant where the alleged rape took place. Singh said he saw the accused and the girl kissing passionately in a passage.

“They seemed very comfortable with each other. I noticed nothing untoward between the man and the woman outside my window. If there had been noises of a struggle I would have heard,” his affidavit reads.

However according to the complainant, the accused allegedly forcefully kissed her, put his hands in her pants, threw her on the floor and raped her. She said she was screaming at the time.

The defense disputed the girl's age and claimed a birth certificate handed in to the court was not hers. Veldsman referred to accounts on social media sites Facebook and Twitter, said to be maintained by the complainant, that appeared to show her to be older than 16.

The suspect’s lawyer argued that his client had no way of knowing the girl was underage as the restaurant had a policy barring anyone younger than 21. He claimed the complainant was drinking alcohol and smoking with her friends. Therefore, these were some reasons he believed her to be of the age of consent.

Horrifying photos from the murder on live TV yesterday...killer leaves suicide note blaming racism for his attack

Adam Ward, the photojournalist shot dead on live TV yesterday morning, alongside TV reporter Alison Parker, may have filmed killer Vester Flanangan as he was fired from their TV station in 2013.
Vester, who shot and killed three people yesterday including himself, worked at WDBJ alongside Adam and Alsion for two years, but was eventually fired due to his poor performance and aggressive behavior. He had to be escorted from the building by police after refusing to leave, an incident which Ward allegedly filmed. After the killing yesterday, Vester released a rambling manifesto-cum-suicide note, in which he blamed racial discrimination, as well as Charleston church killings, for his attack.

In a 23-page manifesto-cum-suicide note to a national news station, he said he has faced both racial and sexual discrimination as a black, gay man and that he was just waiting to explode. He previously sued another station over allegations of race discrimination, claiming that a producer called him a 'monkey' in 1999.

Yesterday Flanagan had tweeted that he was angry at Ward for reporting him to HR when the pair had only worked together once, but these new reports suggest another possible motive for the slaying.

According to the Huffington Post, Flanagan saw Ward making a video when he was fired and escorted from the office building in 2013, and told him to 'lose your big gut' and then flipped off the camera.

Court documents uncovered by the news site reveal that Flanagan is a graduate of San Fransisco State with a 3.7 average, and was hired in 2012 as an 'editorial assistant/general news reporter' on a salary of $36,000 per year. He was also associated with the National Association of Black Journalists.

However, the documents show he quickly fell foul of his employers, and after being fired the following year he tried to sue the company for $25,000, saying he had been discriminated against and sexually harassed for being gay.
He claimed watermelon was left in 'strategic' locations around the office for him to see and that other offensive comments were made in his presence.

He also tried to subpeona the personal records of around a dozen employees, including Parker and Ward, though his request was denied. The whole lawsuit was eventually thrown out for lack of evidence.
The new information has emerged as Flanagan's relatives apologized to families of the victims, saying his actions are 'a shock to everyone'.

Amber Bowen, who went to high school with Flanagan, read a statement from the family. She said: 'It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we express our deepest condolences to the families of Alison Parker and Adam Ward.'

Fighting back tears behind her sunglasses she continued: 'We are praying for the recovery of Vicki Gardner. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with the victims family and the WDBJ television station family.'

In an earlier statement to KRON the family said: 'Words cannot express the hurt that we feel for the victims. Our family is asking that the media respect our privacy.'

EFCC begins probe of Amaechi's administration

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced probe on the administration of the immediate past governor of Rivers state, of Rotimi Amaechi. According to a report by ThisDay, the probe comes after a Port Harcourt-based group, The Integrity Group, petitioned EFCC on July 29th, accusing the former governor of corruption, graft and abuse of office while he served as governor.
According to the petition filed by the  group, Governor Amaechi allegedly sold the Rivers State Electric Power projects and the revenue generated were converted to other uses through payments amounting to N60 billion to three companies all located at Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.
The group also allege that the proposed Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt which was initiated by the former governor, was a failed contract which cost the state a whooping N4.63 billion. They say the circumstances leading to the failure of the contract is questionable.

The group also allege that the former governor, appointed a firm of tax consultants, which was given a relatively exorbitant fee of 12 per cent of taxes collected on a much lower monthly collection target of N2.5 billion, even as the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service was raking in about N7.5 billion monthly at five per cent administrative cost, as prescribed by law. The consultants were said to have collected over N1.5 billion in fees within weeks of their being engaged by Amaechi’s government.
EFCC operatives responded to the petition in three separate letters titled, “Investigation Activities”, and dated August 13, 2015 and immediately swung into a detailed probe of Amaechi’s dealings as alleged by the group.
While two of the letters with reference numbers CR: 30/EFCC/ABJ/EG/T4/Vol.26/386 and CR: 30/EFCC/ABJ/EG/T4/Vol.26/379, respectively were addressed to the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Finance, in respect of the sale of the state power projects as well as Clinoriv Specialist Hospital and Leisure Limited, which was engaged to have constructed the still-born Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital, the third one with reference number CR: 30/EFCC/ABJ/EG/T4/Vol.26/380 was addressed to the state Accountant-General in respect of the activities of Messrs Collect Nigeria Limited on the collection of internally generated revenue (IGR) on behalf of the state.
One of the EFCC letters to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, read in part: “The commission is investigating a case of conspiracy, abuse of office and fraud. In view of the above, you are kindly requested to furnish the following: Details of all the assets sold to the NG Power-HPS Limited; total amount received and the account it was paid into; Sales Agreement/Memorandum of Understanding; House of Assembly resolution/approval; investments made from the proceeds if any; documents indicating due process; and any other information that will assist the commission in its investigation.”

Kim, Kourtney & Khloe reportedly turn their backs on Caitlyn Jenner

According to a report by Us Weekly, despite showing public support for their step-father now turned step-mother, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe are said to be fighting with him in private. The fight is mostly about the way Caitlyn has antagonised his ex-wife, Kris, who is the girls' mother.
"There's not a lot of love for Caitlyn. Vanity Fair was the start of the downfall. It came out and they looked like idiots, they first saw the article on Twitter! The Kardashians were furious once they realized she took jabs at Kris, a lot of times she wasn't very nice. They are so incensed that they may be done with Caitlyn for good. Everyone has turned their backs on her.' Close family sources told Us
"So much so that communication between the stepfather and the stepchildren has nearly stopped. Texts halted as Caitlyn distanced herself at her secluded Malibu estate. Caitlyn has this aura around her that she is better than them. The bad blood has led to a cease in communication,' a Kardashian confidant explained to Us.
