Buhari's appointments has shown his hatred for Igbos - Ohaneze

The Anambra State president of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Chris Eluemuno, said yesterday in an interview with Anambra Broadcasting Service in Awka that he's not surprised at the way the appointments of President Buhari is going, saying it shows the president's deep rooted hatred for the Igbos..
“I said it during the campaigns that General Buhari does not like Igbo people and it is happening now with all the appointments he has so far made since he came into office on May 29. He appointed five service chiefs and there is no Igbo man, even though Igbo have qualified people to occupy the positions. His party has completed the selection of principal officers in the national assembly and despite the fact that the speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara made case to apply the federal character in allocating the offices, the president jettisoned it through his intervention and left Igbo APC lawmakers out.
“He also exhibited his vindictiveness during his recent visit to the United States of America, USA, when he travelled with only governors from his party, leaving out governors from the opposition parties.
“He was also quoted as saying that he would favour those who voted for him and our position is that there is no way the president should expect all Nigerians to vote for him in the last presidential election. That statement contradicted Buhari’s earlier stand that he belonged to everybody and belonged to nobody.”
Eluemuno also said that Buhari had no reason to discriminate against the Igbo because Igbonation played prominent roles in the development of Nigeria and should therefore not be discriminated against in the scheme of things.

According to him, apart from the Secretary to the Government of Federation, SGF, the remaining appointments are ministers and board members, which constitutionally must go to all the 36 states of the federation, adding that appointing an Igbo minister would not therefore be a favour to them.

On the president’s threat to probe only the Jonathan administration, Eluemuno said it would amount to witch hunt if he limited it to the immediate past administration, advising that the probe should start from the PDP civilian administration that began 16 years ago with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who governed for eight years.

How a car salesman was kidnapped during a test-drive and escaped (photos)

A California car salesman was in for the ride of his life after a customer test-driving the vehicle tried to steal it with him in it. The salesman, from a dealership in Concord, California, was on a test drive with a customer on Monday July 27, according to the Concord Police Department when the incident happened.

The dealership, Lehmer's Concord Buick GMC, made a copy of the suspect's driver's license before the salesman left with him for the test drive..

During the test drive, investigators say, the customer told the salesman that he was stealing the GMC Savana Conversion van.
When the car reached the city of Pittsburg, about 10 miles away from Concord, "the victim was able to escape from the suspect by getting out of the car while it was stopped" and called the police, according to the Concord Police Department.
The salesman is shaken up but okay.
The suspect fled the area and was later apprehended by Antioch Police Department, Concord Police said. There was a police chase that ended in a crash.
"The suspect was arrested and later transported to County jail for kidnapping, resisting arrest and for stealing a car," Concord Police said Monday. "The suspect’s identity has not been confirmed at this time and we are unable to release any identifying information. This is still an on-going investigation and no additional information will be released to the public at this time."

Photos: Jane Birkin asks Hermes to remove her name from crocodile skin versions of the iconic handbags

British actress and singer Jane Birkin has asked French fashion house, Hermes, to take her name off the crocodile-skin versions of the iconic handbag after a recent PETA video showed several reptiles at a Texas farm that supplies crocodile skins to Hermes, twitching in a bloody ice container to die after being shot with a captive bolt gun & cut with a knife.

Following the revelation, the animal rights group contacted the singer over "cruel’’ slaughtering practices. She reacted by asking Hermes to remove her name from the Birkin Croco. A statement by the singer reads,

"Alerted to the cruel practices to make Hermes handbags carrying my name, I have asked Hermes to de-baptize the Birkin Croco until better practices in line with international norms can be put in place."
The Birkin bag was created in 1984 by Hermes in honor of the famed singer and is, still today, one of the world’s most exclusive luxury items. According to PETA, it takes three crocodile belly skins to make one handbag.

There's nothing to gain in pulling Okonjo-Iweala down' - Peter Obi

The former Governor of Anambra State met with some journalists in the state recently where he spoke on various burning national issues. Of note was the alleged mismanagement of Nigeria's economy by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.
"It is rather unfortunate that we have this attitude of trying to pull down our best. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala is a global star and only came back to serve her country and she did that with passion. We gain nothing trying to pull her down. We did it with Arunma Otteh, but we know what she is today. I have been in several meetings where this woman (Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) was almost crying as she explained and pleaded with all and sundry on the need to save for the rainy day.
She advised that proceeds from excess crude sales should be saved in the Sovereign National Wealth Fund for effective management. I have read newspaper reports that it is ironic that she spoke of a rainy day when it was already pouring. I personally remain indebted to her because it was from her persistent preaching on the need to save in the Sovereign National Wealth Fund that made me incorporate savings in foreign currency – that is why one third of the money we left on leaving office was in foreign currency, $156 million(N25 billion at that time).
With interest now it would be about $170 million and with the current rate it is almost N40 billion. My position in all this is that we must cultivate the attitude of saving as a country. Excess crude money should be saved in the Sovereign Wealth Fund. No country will survive without saving for the future. Even in animal kingdom, the ants save for the rainy day. We must save bearing in mind that natural resources that we enjoy today are depleting assets."

DPR collected N30billion illegally - Gov. Oshiomole suggests

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole who has been in the news in recent times over his allegations on the misappropriation of funds in the last administration, says he will not be silent when people are abusing power and stealing government funds.

Oshiomole, who was a guest at a seminar organized by the Post-Mortem sub-committee of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) yesterday July 29th , alleged that the Department of Petroleum Resources collected N30 billion illegally during the last administration ..

"Chairman, you must compel the DPR to refund the money. Edo state will pursue its own share of that money because we have not authorized the DPR to take it. And we have the right to go to court if it is not done because for me I want to die for something and not for nothing because I know I will die. DPR’s budget as I understand is about N4 billion annually and in one month illegally they have deducted 4 per cent from certain accruals from royalties among others amounting to over N2 billion. If your annual budget is about N4 billion and you collect over N2 billion in one month which means in a year you are going to collect close to between N24 and N30 billion where your total expenditure is not more than N4 billion. This is not only illegal, it is unjust and not acceptable in a decent society. We cannot all keep quiet even in the face of everyone abusing power. We drive round the country we see a lot of our able young men. In today’s post mortem we want to know how much NIMASA has earned over the years under president Goodluck Jonathan that was never transferred to the federation account and where is the money and how much is it? We also want to know how much NPA transferred to the federation account and if they did not how much do they earn and where is the money?" he said

3 year old Burnt to Death after Women Cooking Mistakenly Poured Hot Oil on his Body

A three-year-old boy, Basit Adewole, was burnt to death in the Iwaya, Yaba area of Lagos after two women, who were cooking, mistakenly poured hot oil on his body.

The women, and their host, identified only as Yemisi, had been arrested by the Sabo Police Division, where the matter was reported.

PUNCH Metro learnt that on the afternoon of Saturday, the women came to Audu Baale Street, Iwaya, to see Yemisi, who was celebrating her birthday.

It was gathered that the women, who did not meet Yemisi at home, started cooking in the room. Adewole and other toddlers in the house were said to be playing in the corridor.

It was learnt that the pot, however, caught fire, and the women quickly threw out the oil and the pot. The hot oil, however, spilled on the boy, and he was set ablaze.

Relatives and neighbours were said to have rushed to the scene, and taken the boy to a hospital. He reportedly died the following day.

It was learnt that the police thereafter came to arrest Yemisi and her two friends, while a man, Lateef, who owned the apartment, was said to have gone into hiding.

When PUNCH Metro visited the apartment, Adewole’s relative, who identified himself simply as Kehinde, said the boy’s life could have been saved if the women did not close the door of their room as if nothing happened.

He added that the government hospital, where Adewole was rushed to, did not attend to him because workers were on strike, noting that the boy later died in a private hospital in the area.

He said:
“The women do not stay in this house. They are friends to Yemisi, whose boyfriend, Lateef, lives here. The boyfriend, Lateef, has not showed up since the incident occurred. On that afternoon, Yemisi brought the women to celebrate her birthday with her. She gave them the key to Lateef’s apartment.
While the two were cooking in the room, the pot caught fire and they threw it out without minding the children in the corridor. Basit was burnt in the process. The women went inside and shut their door.
If they had rushed out with water immediately, the harm would have been minimal, and the boy might have survived. When we took the boy to a government hospital, they rejected him because they were on strike. We then brought him to a private hospital in Yaba, where he later died.”
A resident, identified only as Mama Bolu, said it was a bottle of gum in Lateef’s room ─ used for printing works ─ which caught fire. She added that the women were careless in putting out the fire.

She said:
“The boy’s mother is sad at the moment. The women did not handle the fire in a matured manner, and it has landed them in trouble. The boy was playing with other little children in the corridor. His father just went outside briefly to put on their generator.
The women were frying something. They mistakenly flung the substance on the boy. The boy’s body was engulfed in fire immediately.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that Adewole, who was just promoted to Nursery 1 in school, was the only child of his parents. He was buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, confirmed the incident. She added that the police were still searching for the runaway boyfriend, while the two women were in custody.

She said, “The women have been arrested and detained.

“Efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing boyfriend. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into the matter.”

Bola Tinubu Meets Buhari Inside The President's Main Office

APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has met with President Muhammadu Buhari inside the main office of the president and commander-in-chief. The meeting is strategic as it afford them the opportunity to rub minds on some very important national issues, leading to list of ministerial nominees.

After his meeting with the president, Tinubu said it is a norm all over the world for a newly elected president to take at least 100 days for honeymoon so he can strategize on ways of tackling the nation’s problems. He assured that the change APC promised the citizens of Nigeria will be achieved.
