President-elect,
General Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his government will
recover much of the monies looted from the treasuries of Nigeria with
an initiative he will put in place.
Buhari said by the time his government's anti-corruption programme is
unveiled, those who stole blindly from the government coffers would
cough out every money that have stolen.
He insisted that, 'Stealing is now corruption and nobody will be allowed to go free with our money'.
Buhari made this
known in Daura recently when responding to entreaties from supporters
of the APC who urged him to keep to his promises to Nigerians and not
take the war against corruption with levity.
He is set will put in place a committee to probe the monies generated by
the Nigerian government in the past few years and determining how much
had been misappropriated within the period.
One of the APC top members who was in attendance at the brief meeting in
Daura said the President-elect was optimistic that those who stole from
Nigeria in all tiers will return what they stole very soon.
He said Buhari was of the view that while he would not go all out to
initiate a process to jail looters of the treasury, anyone who failed to
co-operate with measures to be put in place for recovery of looted
funds will have to face the consequences.
