Nepal’s quake death toll now 7,365

Death toll of Nepal’s April 25 earthquake has risen to 7,365 with the injury number standing at 14,366. The Nepalese authorities have started working out the scheme for the reconstruction.
The country’s National Planning Commission (NPC) was panning out plans for reconstruction and rehabilitation. The plan is expected to be presented to the government and the international community soon.
Govinda Pokhrel, Vice-Chairman of the NPC, told the local media, “the tasks of assessing the damage done by the earthquake and preparing a proper plan of action will go simultaneously.”
The NPC held discussions on Sunday, attended by experts on reconstruction. The topics covered settlement of residents in hills and mountains of the quake-hit areas. The country’s Ministry of Urban Development and Construction has set up a special task force to collect quake damage data, in coordination with the Home Ministry.
Sources from the Home Ministry said the authority has instructed the district governments to submit damage data as soon as possible. Statistics released by the United Nations offices showed that some 600,000 houses across the nation have been damaged in the massive earthquake.
UN figures also showed that 8 million Nepalese people were affected by the disaster, among whom, at least 2 million need tents, water, food and medicines. The country has a population of around 28 million.
The UN and other international organizations have appealed for 415 million U.S dollars for relief goods to the affected people after the devastating earthquake.
In the massive earthquake, many offices including the President ‘s Office, Nepal Army Headquarters and Supreme Court have been partially damaged.
Preliminary assessment made by the Ministry of Education showed that 4,500 government school buildings have suffered serious damages.
Health authorities said medical facilities in 14 most-affected districts need to be partially or completely reconstructed.
The Prime Minister’s Office has directed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Civil Aviation to prepare a plan for the preservation and reconstruction of heritage sites.
More than one week after the earthquake, people in some parts of the country are trying to restore normal lives.
Hospitals in capital Kathmandu have been getting out of chaos after the April 25 earthquake.
At the Trauma Center in the capital, the number of quake patients has decreased from 2,000 at the peak time to 200.
All health facilities in the capital were overwhelmed by the initial rush of patients following the massive earthquake, which has claimed more than 7,000 lives.
As of Sunday, the Trauma Center alone has conducted 98 surgeries for spine, limbs and head injuries, while the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital has provided medical services to 1, 350 patients.
The earthquake has posed a great challenge to the Himalayan mountainous nation, as medical aid failed to reach many remote areas of the quake-hit districts. Local health authorities said some 50 international and Nepalese medical teams have been assigned to the disaster-affected areas.

Marine General Joseph Dunford chosen as Joint Chiefs chairman

U.S. officials said Monday that President Obama will nominate Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A combat-hardened commander, Dunford led the Afghanistan war coalition during a key transition in 2013-2014 and has served as an infantry officer at all levels.
The move cuts short Dunford's service as the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, a job he began last October. But the rapid promotion is one of several that have marked Dunford's fast-tracked military career, which saw him leap from a one-star brigadier general to four stars in about three years.
Obama is tapping Air Force Gen. Paul J. Selva, a pilot and current head of U.S. Transportation Command, to be vice chairman.
A defense official told Fox News that a formal announcement is expected at the White House Tuesday.
Dunford has been a leading contender for the chairman's job for months, and his time in the commandant's post was critical. Generally, to be considered for the chairman's job an officer must serve as the head of one of the Pentagon's combatant commands or as chief of one of the military services.
Dunford's most visible role came in 2013 when he was chosen to take over the job as top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan. During his 18 months there, Dunford oversaw the ongoing drawdown of U.S. troops, the transition to Afghan military lead in combat operations, and the tumultuous Afghan elections that dragged on and stalled efforts to reach an agreement on the U.S. military's future presence in the country.
He left Afghanistan last August, preparing to take on his new role as commandant.
Dunford's rise through the ranks has been rapid, particularly compared to many of his peers, who would normally spend several years at each rank before getting promoted.
In December 2007, he was nominated for a second star, and the rank of major general. But just two months later, before he actually got the formal promotion, he got the nod for a third star and was appointed the deputy Marine Corps commandant, effectively skipping the two-star grade entirely. He held the rank of lieutenant general (three stars) for about two years, until President Barack Obama appointed him as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps in October 2010, earning him a fourth star.
Dunford, 59, is a Boston native and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School, Marine Amphibious Warfare School, and the U.S. Army War college. He also holds Master's degrees in government from Georgetown University and international relations from Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

Photo: Man arrested for stealing N4.6m from his employers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 arraigned one Oladepo Bamidele Osibeluwo before Justice Augustine Odukwo of the Akwa Ibom State High Court Uyo, on one count charge of stealing to the tune of N4,623, 600.00

The accused, who was employed as Regional Sales Manager by Topcare Nigeria Limited, a pharmaceutical company, sometime in 2011, allegedly sold some pharmaceutical products worth N4,623, 600.00

The complainant, however, said the accused could not give proper account of the sales recorded. The charge reads: “ That you Oladepo Bamidele Osibeluwo being an employee of Topcare Nigeria Limited, Uyo, sometime in September 2011, within the Uyo Judicial Division, did steal the sum of Four Million, Six Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand, Six Hundred Naira only (N4,623, 600.00), being sales of drugs, property of Topcare Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence of stealing contrary to Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code CAP 38 Vol. II Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria 2000.” The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, M. T. Iko, prayed the court for a date to enable him present his witnesses for the commencement of trial. However, the defense counsel, Nse Williams, urged the court to grant the accused bail.

After listening to counsel, Justice Augustine said the case should be transferred to an administrative judge for re-assignment on the grounds that only courts 5 and 6 in the State High Court, Uyo Judicial Division handle criminal cases. Justice Augustine refused the accused bail and ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody.

In a whatsapp chat with Vanguard, when she was asked if It was true that she left the label, because Ubi Franklin dumped her for Lillian Esoro, she said:

This is why I left Triple MG the first time. He claims he spent money on me but failed to mention that he never gave me my payment for all the tours I have done alongside Iyanya. The true story lies between me and other members of Triple MG who have all chosen to be silent because of fear of one man.
I do not support abuse of women or men. That is why I left. “I don’t want to be involved with anything that has to do with Ubi Franklin ever again” she continued. “Honestly, I don’t want to see my name associated with Ubi in any way. 26yr old pregnant woman shot dead during OPC/oil bunkers crossfire in Ogun

Oluwadamilola Fajana, a 26 year old pregnant law graduate of the Ekiti state University was killed by a stray bullet during a crossfire between OPC members and oil bunkers in Arepo Ogun state on April 29th. Damilola who was married and was 6 months pregnant, was on her way back from work when she drove into the crossfire and was killed by a stray bullet.

In a statement released today May 4th, Mr Ojo Babafemi, the deceased father accused President Jonathan of being an accomplice in the death of his daughter, saying if the President Jonathan had not empowered OPC members and given their leaders such as Gani Adams oil wells located in their area, his daughter and his unborn grandchild wouldn't have been killed. Read his statement after the cut...

"The outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan, has, by the virtue of his empowering miscreants who go by the name Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), sent me and my family into a deep mourning since last Wednesday. The president, by the unconstitutional empowerment of the ethnic militia which has through their clashes with pipeline vandals, killed so many innocent Nigerians, particularly in Arepo area of Ogun State.

My daughter, Oluwadimilola Adebimpe Fajana-Ojo, was killed in crossfire while driving back home after a hard day’s job. President Jonathan is linked to her the death by the reason of his patronage of people who have no basic training in arms and weaponry in the business of pipeline protection, which is a very dangerous security enterprise supposed to fall under the purview of the trained Nigerian security agencies. President Goodluck Jonathan is culpable of the death of Damilola Fajana and that of others by the virtue of his morbid desperation for political power, which led him to awarding this senseless contract of his to OPC in return for political support in Lagos state.

He is equally guilty of my daughter’s death by his withdrawing the trained security personnel, the police, the army and the civil defence corps from doing their constitutional duties of protecting Nigerian people and their properties and replacing them with untrained miscreants by the name of OPC. It is my hope that the incoming General Buahari administration will revoke this obnoxious and misplaced pipeline contract, and restore peace and normalcy back to Arepo and it’s environment.

This can only be done by returning the Nigerian security agencies back to the area. This will stop the current bloodletting and unnecessary blood shedding of innocent Nigerians, just because a desperate man like Dr Jonathan wants to win elections. By this, the death of my pregnant daughter Mrs Damilola Fajana Née Ojo, my unborn grandchild, and that of others will not go unsung. It is my hope also that the Ogun state government, will institute a probe panel into this notorious and inhuman killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians resident in Ogun state all in the name of protecting petrol pipe lines.

As for Dr Jonathan, I will not curse but will not also pray but all I will say is that God will judge him accordingly if his decision of arming ethnic militias has done more harm to the Nigerian people than good. And to his co-travellers in the business of looting and killing Nigerians in the name of protecting pipelines, may peace and hamony be strangers in their homes just like they did to my home over the avoidable killing of my meek and promising daughter whose light they extinguished in her prime.

May the good Lord grant Barrister Damilola Adebimpe Fajana Née Ojo and other innocent Nigerians who were victims of President Jonathan and his OPC killer contractors eternal rest and our families the fortitude to bear the loss" the statement read

See What Happens When You Hope Too Much On Prayer

It is good to pray, don't get me wrong. But people should stop trying to push everything to prayer, including what they are expected to do for themselves. Do your best, then you can back up with prayer.

Look around you, majority of the products you are buying or using were made or built by people who don't pray. Sometime ago, Jose Mourino said he doesn't pray before a match because he believes God is not partial and would not give victory to a team that did not prepare. Today his team is the champion.

The recent fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao also captured this fact. Many people said Mayweather is a rough guy, loud mouthed, arrogant, all about money, etc. The same people said Pacquiao is a good guy, he goes to church and prays like a true Christian. They wanted him to him.

At the end of the day, the man who is better prepared, not the prayer warrior, won the battle...

Prayer is good, but you must watch and pray; faith without work (enough training) can't give you victory!

Royal Baby Named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

royal-baby-kremlin
The princess, who was born on Saturday at 8.34am has been named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana by her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kensington Palace has announced.

The baby, who will be referred to as the Princess of Cambridge, is fourth in line to the throne, after her grandfather Charles, her father William, and her older brother George.
According to a statement by Kensington Palace on Monday:
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
“The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.”
Charlotte is likely to be a tribute to William’s father, the Prince of Wales, as it is the feminine form of the name Charles – Her grandmother, Prince Diana must definitely have inspired her other name and Elizabeth, her great-grand mother(the Queen)’s name…
