The princess, who was born on Saturday at 8.34am has been named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana by her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kensington Palace has announced.
The baby, who will be referred to as the Princess of Cambridge, is fourth in line to the throne, after her grandfather Charles, her father William, and her older brother George.
According to a statement by Kensington Palace on Monday:
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.Charlotte is likely to be a tribute to William’s father, the Prince of Wales, as it is the feminine form of the name Charles – Her grandmother, Prince Diana must definitely have inspired her other name and Elizabeth, her great-grand mother(the Queen)’s name…
“The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.”
