Buhari blamed as workers cripple OAU over 64-month owed allowances
Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government for its failure to meet the demands of its non-academic staff who have stalled activities at the institution.
Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University
(OAU) have blamed the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government
for its failure to meet the demands of its non-academic staff who have
stalled activities at the institution.
Members of the local branch of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU)
had downed tools from Friday, 3rd of July following the expiry of a
21-day ultimatum given to the management by the union to pay up owed
allowances accumulated over 64 months.
OAU NASU Chairman, Wole Odewumi,
was quoted saying that the earned allowances were part of an agreement
signed with the Federal Government since 2009 but have remained unpaid.
Odewumi
alleged that the OAU management had selectively paid the
‘Responsibility Allowance’ which a few senior staff are entitled to,
refusing to pay the ‘hazard allowance’ which affects most NASU members.
“They
implemented the one that concerns them, but the one that concerns
majority of the workers, they have left unpaid. We held several meetings
with them over the matter," Odewumi said.
"Eventually, we gave them an ultimatum which elapsed last Friday.”
But the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, claims that that the Federal Government is the one causing the delay in the payments.
“We
issued a circular that as soon as the Federal Government pays the
second tranche of that money, we will pay everybody accordingly,"
Olarewaju said.
The PRO also said the allegations of selective payment of the allowances were not true.
“I
am not aware of any ‘selective payment’. If they are talking about
‘responsibility allowance’, members of NASU who head units were also
paid that allowance," he said.
“Responsibility
allowance means if you head a unit and you are not given an official
car, but use your money or car to run errands for the university, you
are paid a stipend of about N6,000 or N8000.
"It is not selective.”
He urged the workers to reason with the management.
"We are just appealing to them to give peace a chance and go back to their offices," he added.
"No federal university in this country has paid that money.
"They should just give us some time."
It
will be recalled that member of the University of Ibadan (UI) chapter
NASU on the 1st of July brought academic activities at the institution
to a standstill in a similar fashion.

Animal behaviorists reveal reality star was a goat in past life
The animal behaviorists explained that her pose in System Magazine,
which mimics the mountain goats, may serve as a trigger for mating,
hence saving the declining Walias Ibexes species
(dailymail/secretitaly)
Kim Kardashian has been referred to a goat in a new report.
Lbcblog
reports that according to some animal behaviorists, the 34-year-old
star could have been a goat in her past life. This revelation was made
after Kim's pictures from her recent photoshoot with System Magazine were made public on July 9.
The site reports that in an effort to raise awareness on the plight of Walia Ibexes (a type of goat that live 2,500-4,500m up the steep cliffs of the Ethiopian highlands and are the Alpine Ibexes
cousins) - now critically endangered - Kim posed in a manner similar to
that of the mountain goat, demonstrating her softer, more
environmentally conscious side.
the derriere-driven star took to the French countryside, armed with a
pair of conscious stilettos, eco-friendly platinum locks and a nude body
suit and posed on a mountain of earth, defying the dangers involved
with coming into direct contact with dirt.
The
animal behaviorists explained to the site that her pose, which mimics
the goats, may serve as a trigger for mating, hence saving the declining
Walias species. "She has genuine concern for goats," they explained,
"she thinks she may have been one in her past life."
Ibexus Aurelius, the Ibexes official spokesperson expressed gratitude to the star and all those involved in the shoot.
Man murders mother because 'God' told him she is a witch
This may sound bizarre but a man has murdered his mother, claiming 'God' told him she is a witch.
(WWWN)
A 49-year-old California, USA man, Shelton Eugene Bradley, has been arrested, charged and convicted after killing his 73-year-old mother,
Rosie Manuel, and attempting to bake her body parts in an oven, because
'God' told him she was a witch and he had 'divine' instruction to kill
all witches.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that the Lancaster born Bradley, pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree murder and agreed to waive any credit for time served in jail since his arrest.
He
was arrested a day after his brother called the police to report that
he found his mother unresponsive at her Lancaster home. The victim was
found dead with her upper torso on an open oven door, with the oven
tipped slightly over on top of her.
According to
the police investigation, Bradley said that God had told him that his
mother was a witch and commanded him to kill and burn all witches. He
admitted to strangling the victim, and attempted to place her inside the
kitchen oven before fleeing from the scene.
UNIBEN rejects 27-yr-old 'law student' who killed himself
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has debunked reports linking it to
late Daniel Iyoha, an alleged final year student of the institution, who
recently committed suicide by hanging.
-
She left her son with a neighbour and hung herselfThe University of Benin (UNIBEN) has debunked reports linking it to late Daniel Iyoha, an alleged final year student of the institution, who recently committed suicide by hanging.UNIBEN says the Iyoha was never actually a student of the institution. In mid-June, Iyoha, a 27-year-old reported to be a law student at UNIBEN hung himself to death in their family home at No. 17, Obamwonyi Street, Off Universal Road, Benin City.Iyoha, devout Catholic, reportedly attended mass, did his laundry and hung himself by a wrapper tied tyo a ceiling fan in his bedroom while his mother was away and his sister was in another room. But the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Michael Osaruyi, in a press statement said the student was not a student of the intuition."For the avoidance of doubt, Late Daniel Iyoha (may God bless his soul) was not a duly admitted student of the University of Benin," Osaruyi said. The Spokesman said the deceased had been offered admission twice but failed to register duly both times."From available records at the disposal of the University’s Information and Communication Technology/Central Records Processing Unit, the late Daniel Iyoha, had indeed been offered provisional admission into the Department of Theatre Arts and Mass Communication for the 2009/2010 academic session.’’“But he again applied for admission to study Political Science and Public Administration in the 2011/2012 academic session and was again given provisional admission."He nonetheless failed to pay the requisite and duly approved charges to complete the admission process and was therefore not a Student of University of Benin, having failed to formalize the admission process in his two attempts to become a student of the University.’’This revelation may give an insight as to the motive behind Iyoha's suicide.Perhaps he had deceived his family that he was truly a student and should have been in his final year. The pressure of those around him expectation him to graduate, while he is not actually a student, could have pushed him to the edge.

Christian youth leader arrested for forcing teenage girl to perform sex act on him
The Christian youth leader even asked the girl to arrange a
"threesome" which would involve a school friend and her younger sister,
who was just 14 at the time
(Mirror UK)
Church youth leader has been
arrested and charged to court for forcing schoolgirl to perform a sex
act on him in his flat, and then told her to get out so he could order
takeaway and watch Gladiator.
35-yr-old Timothy Storey who is also an Oxford University theology student was accused of raping the girl, a devout Christian, in a street near a pub when they got off a bus when she was 17-yrs-old.
According to Mirror UK, Storey from Peckham,
south London, even asked the girl to arrange a "threesome" which would
involve a school friend and her younger sister, who was just 14 at the
time, Woolwich Crown Court heard.
Speaking through tears from behind a screen, the woman, now 25, said: "It
was like he had me in a spider's web. There was no direction where I
could turn where I wasn't somehow being affected by him.
"He had me trapped and I knew that if I didn't do what he wanted me to, I wouldn't get the good things."
Storey
denies two counts of rape and one of assault by penetration against the
woman, along with two charges of rape against a second, and one count
of sexually grooming a 13-year-old girl.
Reports say the
court heard Storey spent years manipulating the teenager after meeting
her through a church in London, showering her with such flattery and
praise that she grew infatuated with him and he became "more influential
than God" to her.
But the jury at Woolwich Crown Court was told he could be "two different men", and that behind his charm was a sexual desire that saw him repeatedly force himself on her.
On one occasion, the girl stopped at his house after being caught in a downpour to ask if she could change into dry clothes.
While he opened the door she saw the familiar "flash in his eyes that showed me that he was aroused".
After she went in to the toilet to change he went in and ordered her to perform a sex act on him, unbuttoning his trousers.
She told him "many times" that she did not want to, but "he kept saying, 'Yes you will do it, yes you will do it'."
She added: "I didn't want to be doing it. I was in a small room with a man I was scared of and I didn't want to be there."
He also allegedly sexually assaulted her before telling her to leave so he could watch a film and eat a Chinese takeaway.
Asked how clear she had been when refusing advances, she said: "Very clear. I said no."
The trial continues.
BMW deploys first all-electric 40 ton truck on European roads
The truck takes three to four hours to charge fully and has a range of up to 100 kilometers.
(theverge)
BMW has put an all-electric, 40-ton truck into regular service on the streets of Germany.
According to sources, the European auto manufacturer partnered with logistics company SCHERM to deploy the vehicle in Munich, where it will ferry car parts eight times a day between BMW's manufacturing plant and SCHERM's warehouses.
The
companies say the truck is the first of its kind to be used on public
European roads, and will be charged exclusively with electricity from
renewable resources, according to various sources.
According to reports, the truck isn't built by BMW itself, but by Dutch manufacturer Teberg. The vehicle model — the Terberg YT202-EV
— has only previously been used on closed roads such as ports, and BMW
says introducing such a large electric vehicle to public roads is an
important step forward for the technology.
"With
this project we will gain valuable information on what will be possible
with electric trucks in the future for city logistics," said BMW's head of logistics Jürgen Maidl in a statement.
