Derby abandoned after fans pepper spray players


A derby game on Thursday between Boca juniors and River Plate was abandoned after fans pepper sprayed players

The derby game between Boca Juniors Vs River Plate was abandoned after four players were rushed to the hospital after they were pepper sprayed by fans.
The rivalry between the two clubs is one the most heated in world football.
Four River Plate players-Leonardo Ponzio, Leonel Vangioni, Matias Kranevitter and Ramires Funes Mori-were taken to hospital after they were sprayed with a pepper spray  by fans of rival during a Copa Libertadores-South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League- derby on Thursday, May 14.
The second round tie between the fierce rivals  at home of Boca Juniors was abandoned after the first half.
The incident happened in the tunnel as the players came out for the second half with the game still at 0-0.
Ponzio and Vangioni  were seen rubbing their eyes as other players poured water over their faces to wash away the substance which was sprayed on them.
Conmebol officials at the game said a disciplinary committee would meet on later today to decide whether to replay the match, complete it at a neutral venue or award the tie to River Plate.
