See Photos: Woman whose police husband ran over with bus,stabbed child to death tells her story

If there is a day 25-year-old Dupe will always regret, it is when she met 34-year-old police corporal, Lucky Ikharia, in 2013.

Lying in excruciating pain in a room where she is receiving treatment at a traditional orthopaedic treatment centre in Mushin, Lagos , she told Saturday Punch of the events that led her husband to run over her with a bus.Dupe’s left leg and shoulder were completely crushed in the attack. Her relations fear that her spinal cord might have been crushed as well. Unfortunately, financial problem has limited their options for medical intervention to the current traditional treatment centre where she is being cared for.

She has not been told by the family that her husband also went home to stab their one-year-old toddler to death....She said in pain..
“They told me he took my son to his hometown. Please, help me seek the help of police authorities to ensure he brings my son back,”When the vehicle first hit me and ran over my legs, I tried to lift myself up but my strength failed. Then I saw the vehicle reverse. I thought that was the end of my life. That was when I realised it was my husband. I could not crawl out of the way anymore. I just lay back on the ground. This time, the ran over me completely; the bus’ tyres ran over my shoulder, my back and down to my legs. Then, he sped off,”
 It was obvious the vehicle’s tyres narrowly missed her head. Our correspondent saw an extensive injury that ran from her neck through her back, down to her legs. The photos of the injury are too gory for publication.Ikharia has not been seen since the alleged attack and murder of their child at their Kale Close, Mafoluku, Oshodi residence. He was said to have tried to kill himself as well but survived and it is believed his police colleagues at the Makinde Police Station are hiding him.

The policeman allegedly attacked his wife following a fight about a missing N2,000, which he reportedly saved in the house.

He beat me all the time. I could not question him because I got punched and slapped every time I opened my mouth and he did not like what I said,”“When I met him, he was living in a patrol vehicle. He told me he liked me and was nice at the time. I did not know he had no home. Anytime I visited him, it was always at his friend’s place.
“Then one night, I met him in the vehicle he was sleeping in, I asked why he could not get an apartment, he said his ex-wife, a policewoman he had just separated from, sent him packing. The woman was the one who rented the apartment.
“I already had two children from a previous marriage but I told him he could come over to stay with me.
“Within the period he was living with me, I got pregnant and we had to go to the registry to formalise the union. When I asked to meet with his family, he said if I valued my life, I should not make an attempt to contact them. He said they were trying to destroy his life and he had to distance himself from them.”
Dupe said her husband’s behaviour changed immediately he packed into her house.

She said,
“He told me he wanted to buy a bus and begged me for some money, I took a loan and sold my jewellery. I paid a larger part of the cost. That is the same vehicle he used to run over me.When I was pregnant, he gave me some drugs to abort the baby but that did not work. There was a time he threw my baby out of the window.
“Our quarrels were always just before the end of the month when he was supposed to get his salary. He always did that so I would not have the courage to ask for money for the upkeep of the house.I wondered why he would lock me out of the same house I rented with my money and take my baby away. I had been warned but somehow I kept hoping that he would change.”
 Dupe, who was a filling station attendant before her ordeal said there was a time she paid N80,000 for a freezer which the seller refused to deliver. She reported the case to her husband.
“I thought being a policeman, he would be able to retrieve my money. My husband arrested the man, got the money. He told me he had collected the money but that he used it to settle a debt. That was the last time I heard about the money,”
 Dupe’s devastated mother asked for discretion when speaking with Dupe since the family had not notified her of the tragic murder of her baby.

“We will not tell her until much later when she is well. I have always known that Lucky was an animal. He beat her all the time. He would destroy her phone after each beating so that she won’t be able to contact us.We asked for his family but we got no reply. When my daughter became pregnant for him, I even suggested she aborted the baby, but my daughter refused. She was so adamant about him. We told her to leave the policeman but she did not listen. Now see what has happened.
“The problem now is that we have no money to take care of her. We can only appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid so that Dupe can be well again.”
 Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, told our correspondent on the phone that an investigation has started and could not disclose too much information at the moment

Two Feared Dead, 20 Injured in Akwa Ibom Stadium Stampede

According to NAN, two persons were feared dead and 20 others injured in a stampede at the entrance of Akwa Ibom International Stadium on Friday during its inauguration

The crowd control was a difficult task in spite of the road blocks mounted some kilometres away from the stadium.

Although the spectators got tickets to enable them access the 30, 000 capacity stadium, the crowd started thronging the stadium about five hours ahead of the scheduled time for the match.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emem Bassey, told NAN that two
unconscious persons were taken to an undisclosed hospital.
“I was told that two persons have been taken to the hospital; these are perhaps people who were fighting at the gate in their bid to enter the stadium,” Dr. Bassey said.
He said that the third unconscious person, a woman, was revived in the stadium and had started talking.
“It should be expected; this is the first time this is happening, everybody is excited, everybody wants to enter the stadium. We have 150 medical personnel in this place and eight ambulances. All our medical teams are up and doing and all the clinics are manned,” Mr. Bassey said.
NAN reports that the security operatives at some check points were using horse whips and teargas to control the crowd.

Contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Isaac Achong, however said, “there was no stampede, there was only crowd control. We are only controlling the crowd entering the stadium.”
When told that journalists at the stadium reported a stampede, he said, “I’m not aware” and terminated the call.

An international friendly  between the home-based senior national team of Nigeria, Super Eagles B, and the U-23 National Team of Ghana, the Black Meteors, was fixed to mark the opening of the stadium.
“It is possible football fans were scrambling to enter the stadium to watch the match. That’s what I heard,” an Uyo resident, who said he was on his way to the facility, said.

The President of Ghana, John Mahama and the Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara were all in Uyo to open the new edifice.

Faze responds to those who say he's more talented than 2Face

It's no news Faze and 2face are both successful individually and they have occasionally become the subject of comparison..Speaking with Vanguard he said
“It’s only normal for people to compare me with Tuface. He has his fan base and so do I, so when you talk of comparing us, to me it’s just a way of life. Just like you might like your drink with ice in it, I might not. Often times, I have heard people say I am more talented but he is luckier. But talking about luck, Tuface is not just lucky, he is talented,”
On Blackface
“When it comes to Black Face, I believe there’s nothing impossible in life as long as you push hard enough and it is backed up with prayer and you believe.”

Are Songs by Nigerian Musicians Today Nonsense??? Tuface and Sound Sultan React

tu
The Nigerian music industry has greatly evolved, and while some artistes sing songs just to sell albums(no matter the crap they churn out), others sing songs that we can attribute proper meaning and class to – Well, two foremost Nigerian entertainers, Tuface Idibia and Sound Sultan react to why musicians do songs the way they do;

According to Tubaba, it all depends on what different music lovers value;
“There are two sides to that. One side is that some artistes just know how to package themselves while a few others don’t know. Remember also that the entertainment industry is broad industry and comes in different forms.
What this person finds amusing may not be interesting to another. Again, some artistes deliberately sing or music to target concerts or the clubs. For these artistes, they have their plans. On the other hand, we have some artistes who just follow the bandwagon. It is also allowed in entertainment as long as it works for you,”
And according to the ‘Natural something’ hit maker, SoundSultan, everything has to do with the musician and the listener;
“It’s about variety and people. There must be variety. Having said that, whether negative or positive, it’s about the artiste and whoever is listening.
For me, when it comes to music, I see it as a big tool that should not be misused. If music is misused it can tell on the generations to come. I want to be able to play music that will be friendly to children even my own kids.

Sex Addict Mum Keeps Scorecard for Everyman She Has Ever Slept With

PAY-Sandy-Nardo
It is one thing to love sex, and be an addict, but its another new level when you actually keep a scorecard for every man you’ve ever slept it, that sounds really weird. Anyways, this particular mum, who was so addicted to sex, kept a SCORECARD of the 140 men she had slept with at her bedpost.

Sandy Nardo, 53, gives each bloke a mark for ‘emotional state, sex or kissing, looks, solvency and duration’, UkMirror reports.
Ms Nardo, from Dublin, who lost her virginity to Luciano, 21, an Italian musician, while she was hitch-hiking in Milan, at age 19, has 140 scorecards giving marks to married men, threesomes and even the husband she ditched after six months of marriage.
According to her;
There have been 140 so it would be easy to forget… I wanted to remember them all – even the rubbish ones.
“I have no regrets of what I have done. Sometimes it was mind blowing sometimes it was mind numbing but they are all experiences that made me the woman I am today.
“I have travelled the world all my life and I have slept with men from over 30 countries.
Na wa o – That’s real creepy isn’t???

There is Nothing Wrong With Playing Gay Roles in Movies – Femi Adebayo

adeee
One of my favourite Yoruba actors, Femi Adebayo, son of veteran actor Oga Bello, in a recent interview, the actor expressed his feelings about playing gay roles in movies;

“I can act gay roles. Why not? I can play any role given to me. I don’t have restrictions, as a good actor I must be able to interpret any script given to me. After all it is make-believe, it has nothing to do with who you really are. For an instance, I am a Muslim but I have had to play the role of a pastor many times over,”
According to him, the most embarrassing thing a female fan has ever done to him, was;
“Ah, she jumped on me, kissed me and told me that she had promised herself that whenever she sees me she was going to do that to me. Fortunately, I was with my wife that day and I told her I was sorry and she said it was okay. It’s one of those anxious moments of our job. Before the fan left she apologised to me and to my wife.
Seriously, I get the whole professionalism thing and all that, but isn’t kind of awkward for someone who isn’t gay to act a scene where he has to like….kiss another man?

I Spend My Free Time Having SEX – Nicki Minaj

NickiMinajAnacondaSS_article_story_large
In a recent interview with the publication, ‘Anaconda’ rapper, Nicki Talked about making her brand bigger, working with Beyoncé, empowering women, what she thinks of rapper Iggy Azalea, and her constant urge have to sex;

Nicki, who said, she spends her free time having sex, on how she stays relevant in the rap industry said;
It’s corny when rappers feel like they’ve made it and they don’t have to prove themselves anymore. You should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you’re the best. My album is going to be important to hip-hop.”
And how Beyoncé has inspired her career:
There’s something about her work ethic that always made me feel like no matter how hard stuff gets, I’m not allowed to complain. Some women give me the feeling that where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
And on her controversial song “Anaconda” she said:
Everything we see that’s labeled as beautiful is very skinny. In the song I kind of say, ‘F**k them skinny girls.’ But it’s all love. I consider myself a skinny girl. I went overboard with the video to show that I’m not going to hide. And those big-booty dancers I have, they’re not going to hide. Black girls should feel sexy, powerful, and important too.”
Yeah! People should be proud of how they look no matter how hard that seems, don’t you agree???

No Politician Can Rig the 2015 General Elections – Prof Jega

jega
Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega has allayed the fears of Nigerians, saying the Commission has put measures in place that will make it difficult for politicians in the country to rig the 2015 elections.

Jega, also stated that, regardless of the insecurity challenges in some parts of the country, no part of the country will be disenfranchised during the elections.
In an exclusive interview with THISDAY in the US, Jega said;
“We shall be using card readers which we believe will add tremendous integrity to the electoral system. We are using NYSC, lawyers and retired judges. We are bringing more people of integrity. We did biometric registration and we issued permanent voter cards. The idea is to use card readers with electronic chips that will help identify the person who was actually registered,”
“We are saying that in 2015, if anybody rigs the election, that person will be apprehended and punished. Rigging will not determine the electoral fortunes of anybody. Let me also add that from all perspective, operationally and logistically, we are ready for the 2015 elections from the perspective of the electoral management body and we are working closely with all stake holders to address some of the outstanding challenges.
“Security is a major challenge. However, we are working with the security network to ensure that elections are held in every part of Nigeria including the North-east. We implore everyone to come out and register and elect the right people to office. My advice is that all stakeholders should be actively engaged in the process and stop being sarcastic but should work towards ensuring the true choice of the people emerge in 2015.
Well, lets keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best or what do you think???

Comedian Robin Williams' Death Officially Ruled a Suicide

Comedian Robin Williams' official autopsy report has just been released. And according to it, his death has been officially ruled as suicide, asphyxia due to hanging.

A Marin County coroner's report released on Friday stated that after a toxicology test on the star's body, no alcohol or illicit drugs was found in his system. Prescription medications were detected but
in concentrations consistent with their use for therapeutic purposes.

The 63 year old Mork and Mindy star was found dead in the bedroom of his home in Tiburon, north of San Francisco, on August 11. He was last seen alive by his wife when she went to bed. She woke up the next morning and left, thinking he was still asleep elsewhere in the house. But not until William's personal assistant came to the home and became concerned when the actor failed to respond to knocks at a door.

The comedian had battled on and off with drugs and alcohol for decades and had admitted himself to a clinic earlier this year for treatment. In the months before his death, Williams had been diagnosed with Parkinsons and was said by his wife to be sober, but struggling with depression. The day after his death, he was cremated and his ashes scattered over the San Francisco Bay in a private ceremony.

The Best Liar will Win the Next Election - Etcetera

Where is Ebelechukwu?’
‘Mummy I am here.’
‘Where have you been since morning ehn? And where are your sandals? Haven’t I warned you several times not to be walking about bare footed? Or you want to tell me you don’t have shoes again? Bring yourself here in front of me where I can see you properly. Ebelechukwu, I am going to ask you a question and I am going to ask you just once. If you know what is good for you, you better not tell me any of your usual lies. Are you listening to me Ebelechukwu?
‘Yes mummy.’
‘Good, where is the beans I left in that black small pot in the kitchen? Before you answer me Ebelechukwu, remember I have warned you not to lie to me. If you try it, you will see what I will do to you. Ngwa, answer me, who ate the beans I left in the kitchen?’
‘Mummy, I ate the beans.’
‘Why, Ebelechukwu? Who told you to eat it? How many times have I warned you not to eat anything that doesn’t belong to you in this house, ehn? I kept that beans so that your little sister would have something to eat when she returns from school. You are becoming very fond of this. Go and bring me my cane. I will flog some sense into that head of yours today.’
‘Mummy, I am sorry naa. It is not my fault.’
‘It is not your fault? What do you mean it is not your fault? Whose fault is it Ebelechukwu? Open that your mouth and talk to me now or you will see my red eye today.’
‘Mummy, please naa, I didn’t mean to eat the beans. It was when I got back from school and sat down on that broken chair near the kitchen door and was about removing my sandals, that I heard a voice calling my name from inside the kitchen. I was very afraid because I was the only one at home at that time. And when I finally entered the kitchen, I noticed that the voice was coming out of the black small pot on the old stove. Mummy I was afraid to touch the pot, so I used the turning stick to remove the cover. As I looked inside, the beans was calling my name and begging me to eat it. So I obeyed.’
‘My beans was calling your name Ebelechukwu? And you obeyed and sat down and ate everything? Did you use garri?’
‘Yes mummy.’
‘Oh you even had time to soak garri with it? So Ebelechukwu, at my age you expect me to believe this nonsense you are saying? How come the beans didn’t talk to me all the time I was cooking it? How come the remaining beans in the bag have not spoken to anybody in this house since we bought it? You have become so special that you can hear the voice of beans ehn?’
‘Mummy, I am not lying, the beans begged me to eat it and I was very hungry at the time.’
‘This child, you will not kill me before my time. I am tired of your case. I will wait for your daddy to come back from work to hear this latest story of yours. Common, get out of here before I break that your coconut head.’
Ebelechukwu must be the most ridiculous liar since dinosaurs and homo habilis. But his story of talking beans is no different from the stories we will be hearing from politicians as we are being ushered into another political campaign season. Like Ebelechukwu’s mum, some of the political campaign lies have left a lot of us quite confused and shocked. We have often heard politicians use ridiculous lines like, “I had no intention of running for this election but the people have begged me to run and who am I to say no to the wishes of my people?”
Politicians lie so much that they can’t even tell when they are lying. They lie about one another, they lie about themselves, they lie about issues they know intimately, and they lie about issues they barely understand. When you meet a politician, he’d tell you a lie within 15 seconds of shaking your hand, and if he’s going to meet your mother, he’ll invent a special set of lies for her. Nigerians have become used to politicians lying that they receive honours for lying more frequently and more brazenly.
But let us also understand that politicians lie not because they are wicked (though some are) but because they have learned that political markets rarely reward honest campaigners. The winner of the 1993 presidential election centered his campaign on how he was once a poor man who hawked firewood on the streets. It worked brilliantly and got him a landslide victory. That may never be seen in the country again.
It wasn’t surprising when the preacher cum politician claimed to have been asked by God to contest in 2003 and 2007. Evidently, the ‘God sent’ tag didn’t go down well with a vast majority of the public.
In politics, lying is part of the job requirement, a necessary evil. Just four years ago, the president’s story of having no shoes can be said to be the masterstroke that got him elected. With just that line of “I once had no shoes,” he shattered every dream his opponents had of taking up residence at the presidential villa. If I was one of the candidates of the 2011 presidential election, after hearing the president’s jaw-dropping punch line, I would have sacked my campaign manager for failing to think up something better or equally unbelievable.
From the various campaign slogans I have heard in the past few weeks, it is embarrassingly obvious that the campaign managers these days are downright lazy or dumb. Everything from their campaign themes to music and press releases reeks of the same template used since the 1983 elections. It is a letdown for those of us who find all the political mumbo-jumbos of an election year hilarious.
But maybe we should chill a bit for it is still early into the campaign season. And even so, this campaign season has already seen two presidential hopefuls unleashed some rib-cracking lines such as, “My nomination and expression of interest forms were purchased for me by Nigerian market women and students” and “I took a loan from the bank to purchase my forms.”
All we have to do now is watch as the lines roll in until February when it will be left for INEC to determine whether the winner would be a bigger liar than the loser.
