Lagos lawmakers have asked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to make the teaching of Yoruba language compulsory in all schools within the state.

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday posed a request before Ambode seeking a resumption of compulsory teaching of Yoruba language, requiring all public and private primary and secondary schools to build the Language into their curricula.

The house had adopted a resolution on motion moved by a member representing Alimosho Constituency 1, Bisi Yusuf, to revive teaching of the language in schools in the state.

The lawmakers also agreed to organise competitions among pupils and students in their various constituencies to promote the teaching and fluent speaking of the language.
